Which QAM tuner for XP and how well do they work?
I see OnAir HDTV-GT and HDHome Run listed now for QAM. Do they integrate into Sage well and actually work? How much horsepower is recommended for 1080i? Thanks.

OnAir support is currently broken in SageTV. It doesnt work too well. I would get an HDHome Run if you dont want to worry about weird problems. I own two OnAir GT's because I saw it on the list of supported QAM tuners. Now, they are sitting on my PC doing nothing until SageTV fixes it. I'm not sure why they put that it their list of supported tuners if it doesnt work. There's a sageTV engineer thats currently working on the OnAir support. But its not fixed yet.

The one part I'm missing is how does the video get to the PC, ethernet? That seems really strange, it works well?

OnAir GT is the product which has native QAM support in SageTV. HomeRun requires a separate application to run full time for SageTV to be able to use it. Apparently, it works well based an all the positive feedback from the end users.

I haven't had any problems with it, which is pretty rare with this type of hardware. It's also supported by BeyondTv, MythTV, and MCE, in the event that you go with a different DVR package at some point in the future. |

I had forgotten about that. It's a nice little example of how generally thoughtful and user friendly they are. They realized that a lot of people no longer had wired networks and would be connecting directly and they made it easier to connect.

HDHome Run is the best
i have HDHome Run and you cant beat the quality, no audio sync problems its one of the best designed hardware i've seen, it does take up some network bandwith but works like a charm, you have to take a few minutes to map the channels in for sage tv channels but instructions are very clear.

This will probably be determined by playback restrictions of Sage. I don't think that Sage can use separate playback filters for SD and HD. You might want to post this question it it's own thread just to make sure. Anyway, it's not something that will vary according to tuner.
