Buffalo LinkTheater

I see that Buffalo LinkTheater is listed under 3rd party on the main sagetv home page. I assume that means there is some sort of interface. But it says you must download their software. Does that mean it has much less functionality that MVP? Any new experiences?

Yes, means it can play files created by Sage, but has no integration with Sage (not really sure why it or the Linkplayer are listed).

Any idea about the menu? Could I setup Sage to record shows?

If the LinkTheater is anything like the LinkPlayer, the answer is probably not. If the Linktheater supports HTML, you MAY be able to get nielm's webserver running, but that's a big IF.

The LinkTheater and the LinPlayer are simply media streaming devices; they simply look at the contents of a folder, and play what's there.

About a year ago I tried getting the linkplayer to use the webui to schedule recordings, but they wouldn't work. It's possible that either the linkplayer's web client has gotten more robust or the webui has gotten more bad-client friendly, but I doubt it.

Also, the interface on these client devices just sucks. Slow, unresponsive, crappy. You can't skip ahead or fast forward easily. Very little metadata. It's a shame because it'd be really nice to have a small, cheap, quiet device for streaming media. For now though, I'd recommend trying to put together an cheap htpc client in your living room.
