Argh! Survivor mess!!
I just have to vent. I've been using Sage for the past 8 months or so. I usually just record my own stuff that my wife could care less about (football, boxing, cop shows) on Sage, and we use the DirecTivo for her stuff and things we watch together. Tonight for the first time we have about 10 people over for a "Survivor" party and I talk my wife into doing it via SageTV. I've been trying to convince her for a while now that SageTV (especially once v2 comes out) is the future. Thank God for Tivo, because Sage locked up three times in one hour requiring reboots each time. We finally just started watching it on the Tivo because each time I had to reboot we lost about 4 minutes of the show. I was rather embarrassed after raving to everyone how great this new media-pc was and wait until you see what it can do...
I've used Sage to view about 7 hours of TV/week (mainly football on Sunday and Monday night). In 8 months it's locked up maybe twice (once requiring a complete reinstall with a total loss of everything). Why it decided to act up last night I don't know, but I have to admit that for the time being SageTV will will remain a personal-use only program. Maybe I've been lucky, but in four years of using Tivo, I've never had it lock up or crash. If you've got DirecTV $49 for a new DirecTivo is hard to beat, even for Sage. I'm sure I'll calm down in a bit, but I'm rather frustrated with it all right now. That's really strange. I have been using Sage for about 3 months, and it has never locked up. It has never even hinted about locking up, always stable, even after leaving the computer on for 4 days with Sage open and recording.
It could be a problem with the computer itself? |

Well what's strange is I have watched football on Sunday while recording three other games with no problem. The worst part is how I went on and on how great this software is and how it'll soon be replacing Tivo and such, and then it fails not once but three times. I wasn't even doing anything with the remote, we were just watching last week's Survivor for those that missed it and the video would just freeze. I had to C-A-D to end SageTV. If I reran Sage w/o rebooting it wouldn't respond to any commands via mouse, keyboard, or remote.

I had the same thing happen to me all of a sudden. I installed the newest version of the Java runtime and haven't seen this problem since then, granted this was only about a week ago. I have no idea if this is what fixed the problem (or if it is totally fixed), but I just thought I would throw it out there. If I ever had a lockup before, it always seemed to be the Cyberlink audio decoder I use, but I didn't get any error like that this time. I installed the latest version of the Java because it would seem to happen at just random times, even when just inside the Sage program guide.
