No sound in playback

I'm running the sage miniclient on FC6. The client loads and play video just fine, however I cannot get any sound. Oddly enough, if I play a file directly using the mplayer executable that ships with the miniclient, sound works. What would be different about playing the files through sage's interface that would mess up the sound config?
