Linux, PVR-500 and IR Blasters
I need to control an external STB tuner (for the higher "digital" channels).
Based on the other forum postings, SageTV on Linux supports the IR Blaster on PVR-150's. I have seen the PVR-500 described as a single card that contains two PVR-150's. Does anyone know: 1. If the IR Blaster on the PVR-500 is supported? Assuming it would appear as a PVR-150 IR Blaster but I wanted to ask. 2. Whether the PVR-500 has two IR Blasters (since it has 2 inputs/tuners) and whether they can both be configured/used by SageTV on Linux? Thanks! |

The PVR-500 has no built-in IR blaster (or IR receiver port) at all. You would need some other IR blaster solution for Linux if you use that card.
The PVR-500 MCE Kit comes with an MCE remote + blaster. I have no idea if there is any way to use that on a Linux system; I'm just mentioning its existence. - Andy

You mention I might need "some other IR blaster solution for Linux" but as far as I can tell from the forums the only supported option (on Linux) for a cable STB that needs IR control is to use the PVR-150's built in IR blaster. There was a thread a few months back about a non-supported LIRC plugin that might work in this case, but it wasn't clear whether that was a workable solution for harrijay. Thanks for the clarification! |
