My experience with standby

My goal lately with Sage was to setup a server that would go into standby when not being used, and also wakeup when called upon by either clients i have running.
I can now say that i have achieved that goal !

With the setup i have :
1 - The server goes to sleep when not used and wakes up for scheduled recordings.

2 - If a client i turned on when the server is asleep, it will wake up the server automatically

3 - If a client i on, but the server goes to sleep after a time of inactivity, i have a button in my SageMC client to " Start Server ".

I can happily say that it is working very well.

The utility i use to control the state of the server is called " The Hibernator " and can be found HERE.

Cheers

Thanks for sharing that. I will have to try that software.

I'm a bit confuse on how you did #2 and #3 though. How does the server know to wake when you turn on the client? And how do you wake the server out of sleep from the client? What method exactly? I don't see any options for it in The Hibernator.

Pretty simple actually. I have each client setup to run a script when you first turn them on, which sends a wakeup packet to the server using a utitlity called WOL.exe . You can find it HERE. You need to have " Wake on Lan " enabled on your server .

Within SageMC, i have setup a new menu button using the Dynamic Menu plugin, which again runs the same script file to wakeup the server.

As far as the hibernator is concerned, all it does is monitor the state of your server before it sends it to sleep.
cheers
