New toy on the way!
Well, my old Onkyo receiver was getting a little long in the tooth with Pro-Logic, and since the wife is setting up a home studio for voice over work and was needing something to drive a pair of monitors, I took the opportunity to donate the Onkyo to the studio and update the HT receiver at the same time
![]() Looked around and found that a lot had changed since I bought the Onkyo. It only handles composite video, so that makes it not that great for switching sources easily. I quickly found that one of my requirements was the ability to upconvert composite or s-video to component (since thats what my HD set has). I figure this should let me get the most out of any source. From an audio perspective, I am not all that picky and am generally pleased with any reasonably good piece. The important part to me was functionality and flexability. So, I settled on the Denon AVR-786S which seemed to have a good mix of features that suit my use well. What little that is out there about it I read, were all positive. But, it has some large shoes to fill as the Onkyo has made me very happy over the 10 years I have had it. And, it being 7.1 I am going to have to aquire some more speakers apparently ![]() http://www.amazon.com/Denon-AVR-786S...8746711&sr=1-1 |

Very nice unit. I am waiting for the Onkyo TX-SR605 (I want the HDMI upconverting since my HDTV has only one HDMI port) to come out to upgrade my aging Kenwood VR407.

If you get one with RS232 control, you'll be able to monitor it and paint current status from your HTPC.
