Multiple audio formats

I have a dilemma. Up until now, I've been ripping my CD collection to MP3 files. That's been fine, but I want to get a little more quality out of the files and I have much more storage space than I did when I started this HTPC project. FLAC seems the way to go, but I have an MVP and would like to play music over that as well.

I figured I'd need to maintain two sets of files for each album, but how do I configure Sage so that the proper set shows up (FLAC on the server and clients and MP3 on the MVP)?

Is there even a way to do this?

SageTV supports FLAC so it should automatically transcode it to a format the MVP can understand. I think it goes to MP3 but I'm not sure what bitrate it uses.

I'm more or less in the same boat. My collection is mostly AAC but it plays fine on my MVP because it just gets transcoded.

Thanks for the reply. I read that shortly after I posted. Haven't had a chance to test yet, but I'm encouraged.

Funny, I tried encoding some songs as FLAC, but couldn't get Sage to recognize them. I converted them to WMA lossless and they work fine in Sage.

The nice thing about the various lossless codecs is that you can convert among them without degrading the sound.

I have an iPod so I use iTunes. The only lossless format that I have to choose from is Apple Lossless which SageTV doesn't support. I could make two rips but that would be a waste of space and work.
