Error connecting to MPEG overlay (I think)
I just installed DX9b and Flight Sim 2004. Whenever I run FS2004, I always get an "Unable to connect to overlay" message when trying to view anything with Sage and have to reboot. Any ideas?

Your video card supports the "overlay" in hardware. You have one overlay window available. If FS2004 uses the overlay, then it is unavailable for Sage and vice versa. Whichever program gets the overlay first has it and the other program can't have it until it is released.
Possibly you could use VMR, which is a software equivalent of the overlay. I don't know how to set Sage to use VMR. but maybe somebody here does. There are caveats with VMR such as more processor power required, and other problmes I have herad people to have. You shouldn't have to reboot to fix this problem. If you put Sage to sleep and then shut down FS2004 then wake Sage up it should work fine. Hope that helps. Bob |

It always happens after I shut down FS2004. I've tried terminating Sage as well as logging off and back onto the workstation. It appears to be an FS2004 problem, because when I try playing video in WMP, I get a black screen until I reboot.
It appears that something in FS2004 is "locking" the overlay and not releasing it when it exits.... |

To use VMR you go to Detailed Setup -> Video and set Rendering Filter to "Default (Uses VMR on XP)"
