Hauppauge PVr-250 PQ
I've heard varying reports on the PQ when recording Mpeg2 with any pvr - can someone comment on the quality when using this card and sagetv? Thanks in advance!

I'm pretty happy with the picture quality, but there are a lot of variables that will affect it. The source quality, source material (fast moving sports vs. sitcom), mpeg-2 decoder, TV-output card, TV, TV settings.

thx people. THe signal source it digital satellite. There are two dispaly units we use, the first is a 64" Toshiba rear projection hdtv, the second it a 110" dalite screen with an NEC LT240K DLP HDTV projector. I believe most of the source will be sitcom type - with the occasional golf round etc. thanks for the feedback!

The picture quality is good. What you have to remember is that the digital satalite box is already encoding the video into mpeg, then when you get it thru the composite port of the tuner card, it is getting converted again, so you will always lose some quality.
To get the best possible quality you sould try to use s-video input, this is better than composite, and play with your codecs, I like the sonic cinemaster personally. but this is down to personal preferance Also play around with the hauppauge video settings, turn the saturation, and sharpness down, and fine tune the contrast and brightness. Best thing to do is setup you tv first using a calibration disk thru a dvd player, then do the pc, by playing the disk thru the dvd rom drive, in sage. |
