Disk space issue

After upgrading to 6.1.8 (and running sage MCE)
I have a problem on one of my unc drives.

the disk is set to use all, and is shown by the debug log file to have 10GB available, but on the disk itself is 0 bytes, so I get no recordings happening.

I have other drives available with plenty of space, but it seems to use the Videof\tv drive first. There are a heap of shows on the drive that are 'do not delete' so it shouldnt free up any space on the drive. It should just recognise that the drive is full ,and use another one.

any reason why it would think there is more space on the drive than there is?

here is the log file section:

Fri 4/20 9:00:01.992 Diskspace checking is running
Fri 4/20 9:00:01.993 Verifying existence of all TV media files in database fixDurs=false avoidArchive=true
Fri 4/20 9:00:02.439 Enforcing keep at most limits for the files...
Fri 4/20 9:00:02.556 needFreeSize = 0.45 GB currFreeSize=10.279057152 GB

Fri 4/20 9:05:02.586 Keeping record just the way it is.
Fri 4/20 9:05:02.587 RootFile=\\pvr\videof fstype=null fileLength=0
Fri 4/20 9:05:02.588 SEEKER HAS DETECTED A HALT IN THE ENCODER...TRYING TO RESET IT

Drives setup are:
\\pve\VideoE
\\pvr\Videof\tv
\\pvr\VideoG
\\pvr\VideoH

cheers

May be a dumb question but are these 3 drives import directories or sage recording directories?

\\pve\VideoE
\\pvr\VideoG
\\pvr\VideoH

After being totally hypnotised by your avatar.....

they are UNC directories. Set for recording.. just a bunch of HDD on the same machine.

Import directories are separate.

Cheers

Ouch,
also looks like its happening on some of the other drives now as well.

Anything I can do to figure out why its not deleting any shows? (plenty of shows available that don't have the 'keep' flag set.

Might have to go back to 6.0.18, as its only started happening since the upgrade.

Do you run Sage as a service? Did you remember to reconfigure the service login after upgrading? Typically this gets reset to LocalSystem, which can't access network drives. That would explain the failure to delete anything.

****update****

Thanks for all your help.
It appears it was the login on the service that prevented it deleting.

I am wondering now if my old Hauppage 350 problem was also due to this, as I cannot remember the last time I updated the service login when doing an upgrade.....

hmmm.

Anyway. seems to be working now. Will keep monitoring it.

This just happened to me last night with 6.1.8. I checked and the service is set to run under my ID. I modified the settings to keep more HD space free and then restarted the service. It started deleting like crazy after that but I had already missed The Office

OK.
So it seemed to be working for a while, but now it comes back with the same problem.

0 bytes available on one of my drives (still plenty of space left on others), and it does not record.

Anything else that could cause this? I just missed 24 hours of shows, even with 20 GB of free space on other drives, it tried to record all shows onto the full one.

Just a stab in the dark here, but could it be a networky type of problem causing it to not read the shares properly? I assume the recording folders are on a different pc, otherwise you'd just use the normal folder name, ie e:\videoe.
If they are on a different pc, was that pc working ok at the time?

also, are you still on 6.1.8? I can't remember what fixes were included in 6.1.9.

They are on the server which is hardwired to the router, but the drives are setup as UNC paths.

The issue is that one of the hard drives has 0 bytes free space available.

In on the latest build (upgraded to see if it fixed the problem)

Thanks for the help

Is there a reason you're using UNC paths for drives that are physically within the server? That just seems over complicated to me because it all has to be translated through Windows networking first.

thats what I was wondering.

the only benefit I can see is that you can move your files around on the server to where you like, and then re-create the share, that way sage thinks its still in the same place, but I'd use local paths myself.

In the past, I switched to UNC because of comskip files needing to be seen by the clients. If I did not, the clients would need to have every server drive mapped to the same drive letter as they exist on the server to be able to find the com skip files.

If you use a client SageTV box and ComSkip STVi the client needs to see the files with the same path as the server. So to get that you either need to map the same drive letter on all the PCs or you simply use UNC paths and don't have to worry about how the drives are mapped on each PC.
