Plextor M402U and SageTV 6.X

Looking at some of the other threads, I get the distinct feeling that the Plextor M402U worked well under SageTV version 5. It seems some of the video glitch and flashing problems have started appearing with version 6. Someone please correct me on this if I am wrong. I just got my M402U and have only ever used it with version 6.1.

Can any of the SageTV folks provide any information on work to figure out the M402U video quality problems? I'd be willing to provide more information. My video from my Fusions HDTV 5 has always been flawless, I would like to try to achieve the same with my new M402U box.

You already posted in an older thread, where people said they had some problems with that tuner in the past. The original post that you replied to there was from Feb 5, 2005, long before v6 came out. People have posted in other threads about problems with the drivers where the video would freeze and corrupt the rest of a recording once that happened.

However, if there is definitely something that started happening with that tuner in v6 that wasn't in v5, by all means: report that to SageTV. But, they will most likely want to see a case of the issue being reproducible in v6 while it doesn't happen with a v5 installation using the same tuner drivers.

I gave up on mine using version 5, I've never tried it in 6.0. My problems were not caused by Sage, the generally poor quality was evident no matter what software was used.

Sorry to cause a rukus. I was under the impression that the M402U did work well with SageTV at one point in time. SageTV might want to consider removing the M402U from its published list of supported devices if it does have documented video quality problems and since Plextor has not done any software/firmware updates for it in a long time.
I'm just a little annoyed that I spent a good chunk of money on a device that gives me mediocre performance under SageTV. I would hate for others to make the same mistake I did. SageTV is a great piece of software and I've had an excellent experience with my FusionHDTV5.

Totally support your view on the Plextor tuners!

I have two TV 402Us that I dream of using to get divX directly- but never actually dare to hook up. I think Sage has something to do with it as well- but for me things did not really work well with GBPVR etc either.

I've tried them on Sage 5 and never really liked what I got out of it. The file size is really not that small and the recordings were messed up many times.
Given the proliferation of dual core procs, and the auto divX conversion ability within Sage 6, there is really no need to play around with the plextor anymore...just my 2c!

I forgot to add this earlier, if you are a PAL user the s-video input does not work (or at least didn't when I tried it ~ 6 months ago). This is known roblem but plextor don't seem very bothered about fixing it. How poor is that?!
