Black Screen with SageTV Client 6.1.8

I just installed a Radeon X1900XTX in my Vista Ultimate Box and Catalyst 7.3 (x64). I am getting a black screen with no messages when I launch the SageTV Client (6.1.8). This does not happen on my SageTV Server (Vista Ultimate x32 + ATI X1950Pro + Theater650 Pro). When I go into the Catalyst Control Panel, the Avivo section shows only static images, not moving video. Do I have a bad vidcard?

Try reverting back to the 7.2 Cats. The 7.3's are know to have issues.

I don't think it's the Catalyst. THis has been happening to me for quite some time and the only way around it is to install an Nvidia board.

Are you putting Sage on the secondary display?

If so you'll have to either run it in VMR9 or default. Overlay doesn't work on the secondary display unless it's in clone mode.

Nope, it's on the Primary display. How do I alter the configuration manually to change the mode.

Do you mean in Sage? Go into the Detailed Settings and then to Video/Audio. The topmost option should be Overlay or VMR9. If it's set to Default you need to change it. I would try Overlay first. VMR9 is the suggested mode now.

How do I do that in the SageTV Client if the screen is black? Is there some way to manually edit the configuration file as I have no access to the GUI?

Try editing sageclient.properties to set this property:

ui/accelerated_rendering=false

That turns 3D Accelration mode off. If that fixes your blank display, then you probably need to update the video card driver and/or DirectX. Or, at least that is what I would say if it weren't Vista... changing the video card driver should still be an option. I figure DirectX ought to be up to date for a Vista installation, wouldn't it?

It was already set to false, so on a lark I set it to true and no change. I am going to uninstall the Catalyst Drivers and revert back to the WDDM drivers that ship with Vista and see if that helps. For the record, my Sage Server runs on 32-bit Vista Ultimate with an X1950Pro and has no issues.

Could there be an incompatibility with the 64-bit version of Vista? I'm running my SageTV Client on Vista 32-bit and it runs fine.

It ran fine in x64 Vista with an Nvidia card.
