I do not have Vista but I believe that in order to run VBSCRIPT on Vista you have to register the dll.

in a cmd prompt you have to

regsvr32 vbscript.dll

thanks for replying,

not sure exactly what you mean
please explain to me in depth.

this is what i did,

I, created a text document and pasted this info in there,

set menuname="Nintendo"
set rompath="C:\Users\Tom\Desktop\Games\Emu and Rom\Nes\Nes Games"
set emulatorexe="C:\Users\Tom\Desktop\Games\Emu and Rom\Nes\Nestopia\nestopia.exe"

set emulatorargs=""
set emulatorargs2=""

set sleepsage=0
set disablefullscreen=0
set confirmprompt=1

I saved the text document as SageNes.bat to my desktop.
I ran the batch file and it quickly opens a dos window seems to run something then closes the dos window. But no games.xml

i know how to paste the .xml file into sage if i can just get my batch file to create one

please help
thanks

Must be something with Vista Security and running scripts. I do not have Vista so I cannot assist you with that. Maybe somebody can chime in that has Vista. I think it has something to do with UAC try the script below,

Try the attached script

Try the script attached in my previous post on your Vista Machine.

Extract it makes sure the paths and emulator are correct in the batch file and run the batchfile.

A couple of questions

First off - thanks loads to Nyplayer for making this - it's great.

I managed to get my SNES and NES games up and running without any problems.

For some reason I can't get Project64 to work for my N64 games. Project64 starts but says it's unable to load the ROM. Has anybody else had Project64 (or another emulator for N64 games) work?

Also, I set up my MAME games but the menu items are just the nasty little ROM filenames. I have been using 3D Arcade for some time and as I recall it set up a list generated by MAME that had the 'Friendly' name associated with the ROM name. Is there some way to do this?

nyplayer - on a side note it would be great if you added:
"notepad c:\temp\games.xml" to the end of all the example .bat files - I added it to mine, but it might prevent some questions from those less familiar...

Project 64 does not support launching Roms from command line. Therefore it cannot be used. Someone created a loader to load the roms into Project 64 this can be used... if you would like using it. It runs like all the other games from sage. I attached the P64Loader that goes where your Project 64 executable is also a sample of the batchfile.

I read the file name to generate the game name as closely as possible. I do not read from any list. If you have a list with the file name and the friendly name I am sure i can set something up to use the list.

This tool is working #1. I`ve created menus for my SNES et NES games as well as my GBA games. The only problem I encounter is the fact that after a certain time my sagetv pop over the emulation in sleep mode. Is there a way to minimize sagetv while playing and maximize it after finished and focus on the emulator window ?

In sageTV the only way to do this is to disable ScreenSaver on sleep... then set your batch files to.

set sleepsage=1
set disablefullscreen=0
set confirmprompt=1

It should. The menu formats are the same in the DefaultSTV+nielm menu.xml, and in SageMC's sage_menu.xml.

SageMC uses its own place to store Icons images etc... It is not themed to the default stv. In the SageTV default Dynamic menus you can tell it where to find the images SAGEMC doesn't seem to honor this. I have some new scripts I plan on updating soon. The only way to get the Images to show up in SageMC is to copy the images over to the SAGMC default menuicons folder

ex.
C:\Program Files\SageTV\SageTV\STVs\SageTV3\SageMCE\Themes\Default\MenuIcons\gamesimages\snes

using the script attached the batch file would look something like this... Pay special attention to the set images

Code:
set menuname="Super Nintendo"
set rompath="\\janedserver\d$\games\roms\snes"
set emulatorexe="\\janedserver\d$\games\zsnesw\zsnesw.exe"
set images="gamesimages\snes"

set emulatorargs=" "
set emulatorargs2=" "

set sleepsage=1
set disablefullscreen=1
set confirmprompt=1

creategameNew.vbs %rompath% %emulatorexe% %emulatorargs% %menuname% %emulatorargs2% %sleepsage% %disablefullscreen% %confirmprompt% %images%
See Attached Sample
