PAL DVDs on NTSC TVs via MVP. Is there a fix?

I have read the forum and did a search and it seems as if there is still no definite fix for playing back PAL DVDs from a media file server to an NTSC TV via the MVP.

This is rather sad. I have a whole lot of PAL cartoon DVDs (I'm from Europe and we're trying to have our son watch TV in his native tounge) and I would sure as hell hate to recode every single one of them just to be able to watch them on the MVP in his game room. Not to mention the loss of chapter controls.

Is there a fix for this, short of recoding everything to NTSC and reauthoring with chapters and menus?

I kind of doubt it, the MVP is a hardware based device, as such it has very specific decoding/output algorithms, I don't think it's capable of format conversion.

Your best bet is going to be to transcode the DVDs to another format. You could transcode them from PAL to NTSC mpeg, but my suggestion would be Xvid or H.264, and let Sage re-transcode those to NSTC for the MVP.

The only other possiblity would be for Sage to transcode them on the fly, but I don't see that happening, viewing PAL mpeg on an NTSC MVP (or vice versa) is a very niche market I'd guess.

I've never found a way to do it other than by the h.264 or Xvid transcode route. (Of course there is also the possibility of burning to DVD and then using SneakerNet to play it on the DVD player...)
