Windows 98 or 2K/XP?
I was planning on using 98lite for the OS on my sage box. However I have been reading about the 64K block formatting which can only be done on an NTFS formatted drive.
Should I reconsider using 98lite and go to 2K or XP? Or will I be fine with 98?

Go with Windows 200 Professional or Windows XP Home, either will allow you to format to 64k block size.
Regardless, make sure you update your OS using windows update to all the latest fixes and service packs.

I assume you are talking about 98Second Edition right? The Hauppauge drivers say they require 98 SE or newer. Also you will not be able to format the storage drive(s) with 64k sector sizes with 98SE. That will cause problems as the drive fills up and becomes more fragmented resulting skipping in playback.
Other than that I don't know of any other technical reason, other than 2000 and XP are more current and are more likely to play nice with your hardware.

Additionally, and 9x derivitive will stick you with FAT32 for a file system. This sets the file size limits to either 2GB or 4GB (I can't remember which). Sage will break up the files for you but you much better off with NTFS and either XP or 2000 professional.
