Recordings Not Listed

I just noticed that only this past weeks recordings are showing up in the SageTV Recordings menu.

A little background:
  • All of my favorites are set to AutoDelete = On.
  • The disk is basically full (1.7 GB of 149 GB free).
  • When I look at the disk through Windows Explorer I can see all of the recordings.

This is the first time I've filled the disk. I just expected the oldest recordings to fall of the list (as they were deleted) and not all but the most recent. Any ideas? Is this normal?

I am running version 5.

Thanks in advance!

You're saying the recordings aren't listed in Sage but the files are still on disk? Sounds like Sage is trying to delete files, but the actual deletion part is failing for some reason. Since your disk isn't getting any emptier, it keeps trying (and failing) to delete stuff in order to make room.

My guess is that either those files are in use by some other process, or you have a permissions problem that's preventing Sage from doing the deletion. Are you running Sage as a service, and have you verified that the account the service is logged in as has permission to delete those files?

Might help to say what OS you're running in case this is a Vista issue.

Thanks for the response.

I am running Win XP MCE. Sage records to an external USB 2.0 drive. Sage is running as a service. How can I verify the service has the correct permissions?

When you set up the service, did you provide a username and password to log in with, or did you leave it as LocalSystem? Use SageTVServiceControl to check. If it's LocalSystem, trying changing it to your Administrator account to see if that makes a difference. (Obviously you'll need to restart the service after doing this.) You may want to use some more limited account long-term, but Administrator makes a good test case.

Whatever account you use (other than LocalSystem), trying logging in as that account yourself and see if you can delete files in the recording directory. If not, you have a permissions problem.

Also be aware that this tends to get reset by the SageTV installer, so you need to reconfigure the service logon each time you upgrade Sage.

If it turns out not to be a permissions issue, try checking your debug logs to see if anything pertinent shows up there. (See the FAQ link at the top of the forum for info on how to enable debug logging.)

Thanks. Thinking this through a little further, I have manually deleted recordings via the SageTV UI in the past. Therefore I think permissions are probably not a problem.

In the meantime I manually deleted some files (via Windows Explorer) to clear up some space until I could get back troubleshooting. I just noticed tonight that my new recordings were not showing up on the drive... Since they were available in the SageTV menu, they had to be somewhere...right?

Long story short, SageTV switched recordings to a different drive. I have a number of different USB thumb drives I use and suspect Windows shifted a drive letter or something. Though, I am going to have to be watchful when the drive gets near full capacity again. Hopefully Sage does the housekeeping on that drive and doesn't shift itself.

Thanks again for the help.
