Video Card Question

Hi.....

Got permission from the wife to upgrade the media server!!!!

Took an old (well, relatively at least) Core2 Duo E6700 from my other machine (upgraded to Quad Core).

I have to buy another video card, PCIe. I currently have an e-cheapo Radeon 9600LE AGP. Until now worked just fine for HDTV. Not really any complaints.

But the new MB is making me change to PCIe. I am thinking of this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102630

This is a Radeon X1300 512MB GDDR2. I know it is not the best money can buy! I just want to know from other people's experience --- is it BETTER or same as what I have now (old Radeon 9600LE).

The Biggest thing for me with this card is it is FANLESS. My darn PC is noisy enough now.

I also would rather stay with ATI-based cards as I have had more luck on my media PC with ATI engine rather than nvidia engine.

So, feedback is welcome. Thanks!

I think you'll be fine with the X1300. I run an old X800GT and haven't had any issues through DVI. You'll probably need to spring for PowerDVD 7 to get the latest decoders, if it's not already included in the box. Does that Sapphire come with the video out/HDTV dongle? if not you may have to order one separately if your display needs a YPrPb input.

you might want to check this thread too: http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/show...ighlight=x1300

I'd probably get the passive XFX 7950GT if I were buying today.
