NVidia DualTV Capture Software

I noticed that with the Hauppauge 150 and 500, the WinTV will capture video. Is there a software product that will do hardware capturing of the NVidia DualTV besides SageTV? I'm thinking if I want to capture VHS tapes to NVidia and don't want to install Sage Server on the computer (because Sage client is already installed).

Thanks,
Mike

You could try using consumer solutions like PowerDirector by Cyberlink. It works with my Avermedia PVR150 Plus that I have. I don't know about Nvidia cards, but I know I was able to download a trial for PowerDirector 5 to verify it worked with my card.

Good luck. I tried Nero, Powerdirector, WinDVD Creator, and vorious 3rd party apps. None worked. You could setup Sage with a chennel that is your VCR and try recording that way. Set it up like you would input from a cable box.

BEST CAPTURE FOR VHS

Your thoughts please (I've sort of changed the topic to best capture for VHS because that's really what I'm trying to accomplish with the NVidia card):

Another few problems I've been having is I have my VHS attached to my NVidia card and here are some minor issues:

1. It seems that I have to use the coax connector even though RCA cables are supposedly is better because the separate the sound and video. I can't use SVideo because most VCR's only allow that for DVD out. The adapter NVidia provides from RCA in to Svideo in is terrible and seems to make the video quality horrible (not even in color but static black and white). So, unless anyone has a solution I have to use the coax.

2. This is a real problem - it seems that while watching the VHS tape in Sage for some tapes it's like everything just sort of "freezes" as if it is not capturing. But, if I simply press the fast forward button then all of the sudden I start to see a bunch of video going in fast forward. So, in other words, for some videos it captures (or senses input) just fine in fast forward but not in Play (only on some videos). Is this a Sage problem or a problem with NVideo capture input? I'm going to try the Stoik capture and see if that makes a difference.

3. Are there any filters for VHS to make the input to the capture card as clean as possible? Also, are there any programs to "clean" any noise/static out of the mpeg 2 file so as to make the quality as good as possible. As I recall a long time ago, there were programs like this for mp3 files to clean out the static from music files. Anything like that for mpeg2?

(EDITED: looks like that stoik capture doesn't seem to work well with the nvidia card. It's limited and doesn't seem to capture right).

Any advice?

Thanks,
Mike

I have it working just fine with Sage. I just didn't know if:

1. There's a better mpeg encoder I can use.

2. How to get the best signal with the VHS.

3. Any clean up programs for an mpeg 2 file.

4. Anything better for capturing then Sage.

5. The problem where it's as if Sage is not sensing the data on some VHS tapes (not sure why) but yet it senses it in FF mode. STRANGE.

Mike
