Multiple PVR250's
If I am using two (or more) PVR250's in one PC and each one gets their input from a cable box how does one PC control all the cable boxes?

I think so but let me recap what they said to make sure.
1) The fact that I have 3 identical cable STB's means they will have to be seperated to prevent the IR blaster from controlling all 3 at once. 2) This means 3 PVR250's in 3 different systems in 3 different rooms. 1 server and 2 clients. 3) Server will run SageTV + SageRecorder with SageRecorder configured as a network encoder and the clients will just have SageClient. 4) With this setup: a) 3 people can watch 3 different channels and with the PVR functions. b) 2 people can watch 2 different channels and have 1 recording. c) 1 person can watch a single channel and have 2 channels recording. d) any other combo of liveTV and recording using 3 inputs. Is this correct? Last edited by sleonard; 11-21-2003 at 11:01 AM. |

I have no personal experience having SageTV control multiple cable boxes, but the way I read the thread was that to control two cable boxes on a single computer; you would run both SageTV and the network client on that computer. I don't think you need to have the cable boxes in different rooms, just far enough apart that they don't receive that channel changes from each other. Making a shield out of Tin foil would probably allow you to have them pretty close together. So with luck you could make it all work on one computer, but it would probably be easier and have greater flexability if you used 3.
Your description of 3 networked computers, each with a pvr 250, seems right to me. |
