The issue here was an installation issue: LM RKM by default install as "All Users". If you instead choose "Just Me", it will work only for you. That means that if you use the SageTV Service and choose "Just Me", the SageTV Service account must be your user account otherwise it will not work. Uninstalling and installing LM RKM for "All Users" resolve the issue. Regards, Stéphane. |

Yes it did. I just rushed to get this system going and overlooked this easy to fix (now that I know what caused the problem!) issue. Stephane support was outstanding.

I'd been using v4.6 for ages, and although it was terribly difficult to initially get it setup to work right, when I finally did it worked great. I've been using a USB-UIRT for receiving signals, and a MCE blaster for sending them (I'm on Vista, using service mode, and even with LMRKM I was never able to get the USB-UIRT to both send and receive.)
Anyway, I don't know what happened, but a few days ago, the blasting just flat quit working. I decided in the midst of fixing it to update to v6.4 and see if that helped. I definitely understand what I'm supposed to be doing better by the nice new wizard and pictures, but i still can't get it to work. If I choose the USB-UIRT as the blaster, it shows it as "Available" but when I try to learn a code, it doesn't do anything - the "learn" dialog doesn't recognized that I've just pointed my sat box remote at the USB-UIRT and pressed a button, and nothing new shows up in the logs. If I choose the MCE IR as the blaster, I can learn new codes perfectly well. But then if I try to "test" the button I just learned, it doesn't work and I get the following error in the svc_trace... Anything you can suggest to help? (Ideally I'd like to get the USB-UIRT working as the blaster, so I don't have to constantly have two remote products hooked up (I'm already using the USB-UIRT as the receiver.) But if it's easiest to get the MCE blaster working, I'll stick to that route if I have to. You can see in the log where I tried to go back and forth between the MCE and USB-UIRT blasters, and you can see that there's nothing in the log for the USB-UIRT, even though I was trying to learn codes while that was selected also.) 20091107 02:46:04.614 - Info - Stopping blaster : MCX 20091107 02:46:04.616 - Info - DeviceManager.Stop() 20091107 02:46:04.620 - Info - Starting blaster : UIRT 20091107 02:46:04.620 - Info - Blaster already started : UIRT 20091107 02:46:11.389 - Info - Starting blaster : UIRT 20091107 02:46:11.390 - Info - Blaster already started : UIRT 20091107 02:49:20.009 - Info - Stopping blaster : UIRT 20091107 02:49:20.200 - Info - Starting blaster : MCX 20091107 02:49:20.202 - Info - DeviceManager.Start() 20091107 02:49:20.203 - Info - Checking for USB device 20091107 02:49:20.204 - Info - Adding USB device: \\?\root#system#0001#{7951772d-cd50-49b7-b103-2baac494fc57}\port1 20091107 02:49:20.218 - Info - Device firmware version: 5.042 20091107 02:49:20.219 - Info - Device has learning port: True 20091107 02:49:20.219 - Info - Device has long range receiver: True 20091107 02:49:20.220 - Info - Device can blink receiver led: False 20091107 02:49:20.220 - Info - Device receiver ports: 2 20091107 02:49:20.221 - Info - Device emitter ports: 3 20091107 02:49:20.316 - Info - Successfully started blaster : MCX 20091107 02:50:12.287 - Warning - IR exception: GetOverlappedResult failed - IOCTL = 257966114, GLE = 22 20091107 02:50:12.288 - Info - Receive Thread failure - exception = LMGestion.MCERemote.IRService.IRServiceException: GetOverlappedResult failed - IOCTL = 257966114, GLE = 22 at LMGestion.MCERemote.IRService.USBPort.DeviceIoControl_Sync(SafeFileHandle hDevice, UInt32 dwIoControlCode, Void* lpInBuffer, Int32 nInBufferSize, Void* lpOutBuffer, Int32 nOutBufferSize, Int32* lpBytesReturned) at LMGestion.MCERemote.IRService.IRSnowballModel.ReceiveThread() 20091107 02:50:25.111 - Warning - IR exception: GetOverlappedResult failed - IOCTL = 257966114, GLE = 22 20091107 02:50:25.112 - Info - Receive Thread failure - exception = LMGestion.MCERemote.IRService.IRServiceException: GetOverlappedResult failed - IOCTL = 257966114, GLE = 22 at LMGestion.MCERemote.IRService.USBPort.DeviceIoControl_Sync(SafeFileHandle hDevice, UInt32 dwIoControlCode, Void* lpInBuffer, Int32 nInBufferSize, Void* lpOutBuffer, Int32 nOutBufferSize, Int32* lpBytesReturned) at LMGestion.MCERemote.IRService.IRSnowballModel.ReceiveThread() Last edited by popechild; 11-07-2009 at 02:00 AM. |

The only reason it might not work with the USB-UIRT is that another process is using the USB-UIRT. Does SageTV is set up to use the USB-UIRT as your remote or are you using LM RKM with the USB-UIRT set as your remote? You can review the uirtsurrogate_trace_xxxxxxxx.log to see what prevent LM RKM to work with the USB-UIRT. Quote:

Assuming this might be the case, I changed that setting, and then went in and learned all of the controls from my remote into the LM RKM program through the USB-UIRT, which all seemed to work fine. But, when I go into Sage now, some of the buttons don't work. All of the standard playback controls, as well as the arrows and enter, work fine. But buttons like Guide, Info, Option, Recorded TV- none of these do anything. I assume I'm missing something, but I'm not sure what... I haven't had a chance to see if this would fix my problems trying to use the USB-UIRT as a blaster yet - I'll try that this afternoon. Thanks. |

I've also had a chance now to try setting up the USB-UIRT as the IR blaster again, now that I've removed the USB-UIRT from Sage's configuration and I can successfully use it for incoming IR (at least for some buttons, see previous post).
However, it still doesn't seem to want to recognize any key presses when I'm learning it as a blaster (it recognizes them fine when I'm setting up the remote). You meantioned trying another remote like the MCE remote in case it's just not recognizing my sat box remote, but I tried the same MCE remote that's successfully being used to setup as a remote, and it didn't work either. Basically, when I get to the "Learn IR Codes" window and it tells me to point the remote at the USB-UIRT and press it, the USB-UIRT light will blink when I press the button, but nothing shows up on the "Learn IR Codes" window. It also doesn't seem like anything helpful is going on in the urtsurrogate_trace file - here's the full text of today's file: 20091108 09:17:30.600 - Info - USB-UIRT Surrogate started 20091108 09:17:30.607 - Info - Creating USB-UIRT device 20091108 09:19:46.618 - Info - Stopping USB-UIRT surrogate 20091108 09:19:46.619 - Info - Destroying USB-UIRT device 20091108 09:19:46.919 - Info - USB-UIRT surrogate stopped 20091108 09:23:54.827 - Info - USB-UIRT Surrogate started 20091108 09:23:54.832 - Info - Creating USB-UIRT device 20091108 09:32:24.523 - Info - Stopping USB-UIRT surrogate 20091108 09:32:24.524 - Info - Destroying USB-UIRT device 20091108 09:32:24.698 - Info - USB-UIRT surrogate stopped 20091108 09:32:25.487 - Info - USB-UIRT Surrogate started 20091108 09:32:25.492 - Info - Creating USB-UIRT device 20091108 09:34:46.363 - Info - Stopping USB-UIRT surrogate 20091108 09:34:46.365 - Info - Destroying USB-UIRT device 20091108 09:34:46.646 - Info - USB-UIRT surrogate stopped 20091108 09:34:46.976 - Info - USB-UIRT Surrogate started 20091108 09:34:46.982 - Info - Creating USB-UIRT device 20091108 09:38:27.843 - Info - Stopping USB-UIRT surrogate 20091108 09:38:27.844 - Info - Destroying USB-UIRT device 20091108 09:38:27.954 - Info - USB-UIRT surrogate stopped 20091108 09:38:28.474 - Info - USB-UIRT Surrogate started 20091108 09:38:28.480 - Info - Creating USB-UIRT device |

You still need to create / download an application profile for SageTV to map your button press into something SageTV understand.

Restart the LM RKM Blaster service or your PC (it seems that somehow you confused the RKM Blaster Service or UIRT Surrogate and they don't communicate together as they should be)

Isn't that what I'm doing when I "Edit" the profile under the option to setup my remote and I learn the codes from my MCE remote? I assumed I was doing that correctly because before I did that none of the buttons on my remote worked within Sage, but after I did it many of them now do. If that's not what you mean by creating an application profile for Sage, can you point me in the right direction on how to do that? (By the way, I'm pretty sure when I initially set this up, I did the donator version, and I have a login and password that work, but I downloaded the Free version this time because the link to download the Donator version gave me an "Access Denied" error.)

Then in "Customize your remote" you have the application profiles list. By default LM RKM contains a "Default" profile and I quote the text you can found here : "You remote can act differently for each running application. If you want to customize the remote behavior for a specific application, create a new profile..." So you are supposed to click on the "Add" button and either choose "New Blank Profile" or "Profile from Online Database" and then you'll be able to specify what each button press will do for the application. I restarted the system and was finally able to get the USB-UIRT to recognize and learn the IR codes, and I now understand what you were trying to tell me with regards to the need to setup a new profile and not just modify the default profile. Everything is finally working again, and as an added bonus it's much less complicated now.
Thanks for all the help Stephane! |

After years of sage, girder, and xp, it seems that w7 makes things more complicated... I've skimmed this thread but can we confirm, before I start messing with something that basically works (as far as the wife is concerned) but doesn't do enough (as far as I'm concerned ), will this software allow me to:
- Control Sage (customizing the action of every button on my remote) - Blast to my motorola set top box - Blast to my AV receiver - Control other apps potentially down the line using: - Windows 7 64bit - MCE receiver with 2 incl blasters - Harmony 880 remote (MCE remote also available but I'd rather not use it if I can use a universal). It seems like I should be able to do all but the blasting with the free version to test, but if I get the donator version the profiles make setup a lot easier I assume? Is there a way to see what profiles are available without first donating?

Ok, for now I'm simply focusing on remapping the Green button, etc. I have been successful in stopping them from launching their MCE functions, but I can't make them do anything in Sage. I must be missing something simple here...
I have sage set up to use an external remote config. I have set up a Sage profile (shift ctrl R to ID the window) and told it use Keystroke {HOME} when Green button is pressed. For awhile I'm fairly sure the LM icon wasn't lighting red when I pressed the remote button, but now it is, so that may have been my imagination. But regardless, nothing happens when I press the Green button. Same with any of the other special buttons I have remapped. Suggestions? Windows 7 Home 64bit.

Live Trace shows that the 'green' button on my remote is not the "Green Button". sigh, OBVIOUSLY! haha
On the right path now.

Yeah the green button is the green button in LM RKM, whereas the Green Button (notice capitals) is the Windows button...
