Backup/Restore Problem/Resolution & two other questions. :)

Ok, I followed all the 'sage' advice on the forums here and backed up my properties file, wiz.bin & wiz.bak files before reformatting the hard drive for a fresh install of WinXP Pro.

However, after copying the the above files back to my SageTV directory, my favorites were still not there! Something hadn't worked and I started to post here asking for help.

Then I had an idea and looked at the sage.properties file and saw that it was pointing to the wrong directory for the wiz.bin and wiz.bak files. This was because before I re-formated the drive, Sage was set up on an "E" partition and now it is on the "C" partition. I changed the drive letter for all three places in the file where it was pointing to "e" and -shebang-, all better! I hope that helps someone else sometime.

On to my two questions:

1. What is the difference between using the "nVidia Video Decoder" or the nVidia Video Post Decoder" option? Do they do the same thing or what? I notice that if I choose the later I get an 'nvidia' icon in my system tray when playing a video. But if I use the non-post version, it seems to 'try' to put the icon down there but disappears right away.

2. I notice that when I push the power button on my Haupaugge 45 button remote, it either powers up or puts Sage into sleep mode. (Thanks Opus for the awesome tutorial on getting the remote working properly!)

However, if Sage is open and I click the 'X' in the top right corner to close Sage down, the remote seems to 'die'. When I press the Green button again, it won't start Sage. My understanding is that the green button is supposed to power on or wake up Sage no matter what. Anyone know why this happens or how to fix it? I'm using the .ini from post 15 of Opus' thread on the issue.

(Interestingly, If I press the 'GO' button at this point, it powers sage back up. But the 'Go' button brings up the WinTV dialog if it is pressed while sage is on standby.)

This is because the remote didn't know you had shut down SageTV & was still in SageTV mode. The first time you pressed it, it thought it put SageTV to sleep & exited SageTV mode. At that point, it could restart it when you pressed the button again.

Thanks for the help Andy.

BTW, in your last sentence you meant "couldn't" instead of "could" right?

Anyone know the difference between those two decoder choices referenced in #1 above?

No -- What I meant to say was that after pressing the button the first time, the IR software is put into a state where the 2nd press could wake/start SageTV, when using the ini file you referred to. I suppose "could" should have been "will be able to".

And I'll still leave Q #1 for someone else...

OK, I think I got it... Since the remote thought it was still in Sage Mode, it was trying to send the Standby or Restore command when the green button was pressed. However, the GO button is programed to start the program no matter what which is why it works when the regular power button does not.

If my understanding is incorrect please set me right, otherwise thanks for the help.

Now to just have one of the wise ones share their knowledge of the decoder. hehehehe
