Changed TV and video stutters!
Ok, so I began my upgrade into the HD realm. I ditched by 32" SD TV and hooked up a new 42" 1080p LCD. I went into Sage Detailed setup and changed the aspect ratio settings to reflect the wide screen tv. If I play a sage recording, its choppy. If I play a DVD, it plays as though its filling entire screen, but the sides are black like its still in 4:3 mode, and cutting off the left and right side, putting just very thick black bars on sides. Playing on my MVP's still works fine. I am running the newest version of beta.
Still using my SD inputs I was before replacing TV, have yet to upgrade to HD inputs. Anyone have any ideas before I format the box and try a fresh install?

What desktop resolution are you using and what is the native resolution of the LCD? What display adapter? PC specs?
The MVPs, if you don't convert your video use VERY little CPU from the host so they will usually work no matter what you do. Once transcoded to something the MVP can't decode it's another story but still not too bad. I actually use the MVP with my plasma as I think it's picture quality is better then that of the server with Sage fullscreen. Not to mention the GUI on the server has alot more system overhead (P4 3.2 HT - MVP=~2-5% CPU each, GUI on the server ~30% CPU). Usually I have no users logged in running as service, further redusing server load. TV windowed to 640x480 on the server looks great just not as good fullscreened. I'll also use the MVP in PiP with the server displaying my CCTV cameras, the web, or vise versa. I don't have any HD inputs right now (rural OK) so if you do you might use the server as the MVPs won't help you there. I can't wait for an HD extender with many hardware decoding options!!! |
