I was having the exact same problem and I figured it out.

The Web server now specify a DTD for the XML used by SageTray and this DTD is hosted on http://www.sage-community.org/, so SageTray will load the DTD to check for XML compliance to this DTD.

On my network however, the request to the DTD was denied by my firewall (this is an ISA server and authentication is needed to go to most web sites) and as such SageTray cannot load the DTD and validate the XML, so no upcoming recordings displayed.

So you should check this out.

and also k10ck3r checking the XML feed against the DTD should be disabled because every time the XML file is loaded a request is made to load the DTD on the www.sage-community.org web site.

Regards,
Stéphane.

Wow...nice work

So if I simply load an exception in my windows firewall, that should fix it??

Yes if your issue is the same as mine, you have to make sure that SageTV Tray is allowed to donwload the DTD.

Stéphane.

Interesting. A few revisions ago, I made a change in SageTray to not check the DTD (this was required to work with newer versions of the webserver). Maybe I am missing something else in there. I'll check into it. Thanks for identifying this issue.

Ahh. It was the other way around. With older versions of SageTray, the prohibit DTD setting was set to true. When using later versions of the webserver, I got an empty feed back from the webserver unless I set this to false (and thereby enabled DTD processing).

Depending on how you load the XML, you may want to use a XMLResolver and setting the Credentials property to CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials (this will help for downloading the DTD for people with a proxy that use authentication) or setting the XMLResolver to null to not load the DTD (I don't see why it wouldn't work that way)

Regards,
Stéphane.

Thanks for the suggestion. It worked quite well (setting resolver to null). I will do some more testing and then hopefully release a new version soon with the change.

Version 1.1.18 posted

Just posted version 1.1.18.

This build bypasses the DTD check that was being performed on each XML download from the webserver. This should correct the reported problem where empty schedule popups were being generated due to firewalls blocking the DTD operation.

this is just a problem with the context launcher. every thing else works fine. i can launch sagetv and the service from the context menu, but launching the webserver just shows a blank page in ie7.

also, i can't get the latest sagetray to work with webserver 2.16 and sagetv 2.2.8. it just gives the error, "Error encountered Retrieving_Webserver_Info". is there a fix for this? i can access the webserver in IE7 fine. installing webserver 2.14 solves this problem and sagetray works great with webserver 2.14 and sagetv 2.2.8.

here is a debug log when using webserver 2.16.

By latest version, I assume you are trying with 1.1.18? If so, do you have a copy of 1.1.17? I made a change in 18 for the webserver interface that may not be working correctly on your setup. If you don't have 17, then I can email you a copy if you'd like. You can reach me at k10ck3r@hotmail.com.

yes, i was using 1.1.18. i do have 1.1.17 and i tried it with webserver 2.16, but it did not work. heres the breakdown on my setup,

Windows XP Pro, WinTV-PVR-USB2, SageTV 2.2.8, GetStatus 1.3

Webserver 2.14 + Sagetray 1.1.18 = Works!
Webserver 2.15-2.16 + Sagetray 1.1.18 = Error encountered Retrieving_Webserver_Info
Webserver 2.15-2.16 + Sagetray 1.1.17 = Error encountered Retrieving_Webserver_Info
Webserver 2.14 + Sagetray 1.1.17 = Works!

so i guess webserver 2.15-2.16 doesn't work properly with sagetray with my setup. if you need any more info, i'll be glad to help you squash a bug.

Version 1.1.17 + Webserver 2.15-2.16 needs to do a DTD operation when getting the schedule information. Other users reported that this operation was being blocked by their firewall. If you are running a firewall, you might try disabling it temporarily for a test to see if that is causing a problem.

Also, are you using a user name and/or password when connecting to the Webserver? If so, I would double check them (text is case-sensitive) and I think I noticed that the default user name changed from "sage" to "Sage" between 2.14 and 2.15.

i tried disabling my firewall, which is Sygate PF, but sagetray could not retrieve the info. and i don't think there is a problem with my user/pass either. i think it might be webserver 2.15-2.16 that is the problem. maybe there was a change in it since 2.14.

heres what i do, i leave sagetray 1.1.18 running in the tray. i have webserver 2.14 installed with the sagetvservice running. the sagetray icon is blue indicating a connection. clicking it shows my recording schedule.

now, i stop the sagetvservice and install webserver 2.16 as it is installing, it gives an error that it could not open a port in windows firewall. i ignore it since i don't use windows firewall. it is turned off. so after the install is complete, i start the service. sagetray shows nothing.

i do the same as above, but i install webserver 2.14 and it gives the same ' can't open port on firewall' error. sagetray was still running the whole time, and it was able to retrieve the info right after i installed webserver 2.14. so maybe there is a change in webserver 2.15-2.16 that is causing problems with my setup?

The main changes I am aware of since 2.14 are
1) the DTD requirement (which by default requires SageTray to do a DTD lookup on the web - hence the firewall problem some reported)
2) The default user name changed from "sage" to "Sage"

I can't think of any other differences that I have come across that affect the xml feeds that SageTray uses. After installing 2.16, did you double-check the user name and password settings in the realms.properties file?

i doubled-checked the user/pass and it is correct. i don't know what else i could do, so i'll just stick with webserver 2.14 for now as it is working fine for me.

Will Sagetray set a btton to launch Sagetv?

Hi all, I have been using Sagetv 6 on my win box for 2 yrs now. Works great, but I need to find a way to launch Sagetv with the hauppage remote when the sage is on the system tray(standby). It is annoying to have to put the mouse on it and double click it. I want to pick up the hauppage remote, hit the green power button, and have sagetv start. I have the 45 button remote. Sagetv is set to load in standby on bootup. I leave the machine on all the time so it can record stuff. Thanks. -Tom

You don't need SageTray to do something about that -- for a Hauppauge remote, just edit or replace irremote.ini in your Windows dir. See the links in my sig lines: post #3 for link 1, or post #15 in link 3.

Version 1.1.19 posted.

Just posted version 1.1.19.

This update fixes an annoying bug that caused SageTray to steal focus when the popup was displayed.

Version 1.1.20 posted

It seems I had some more free time this weekend to work on SageTray - another update has been posted. This time, a small feature was added so that double-clicking the schedule popup now opens the webserver's recording-schedule page.
