Thumbs down Help: Can't get 2 WinTV PVR USB2's to work!

Hi Andy,

I used to have just one WinTV PVR USB2 and it worked fine, no probs.

Two days ago, I bought a second one and attached it to my PC. Got the drivers installed ok. I set it up in the SageTV software, but when i tried to view the second tuner, it was very very dark in the tuner section and in the composite section the colours were inverted!

Iv tried uninstalling and reinstalling but to no avail. Even tried different USB ports - no luck!

Am I doing something wrong? Please can you help?

Bert

The only thing I can think of is to make sure you have the latest drivers for it. You could also check to see how it looks using the Hauppauge software & if there is a problem there, try contacting Hauppauge support.

I don't know that much about WinTV, but if it can't see both tuners, then I would simply connect only the one you want to test.

I have 2 PVR-USB2 tuners & a PVR-250 working w/o problems in SageTV... they all just work w/o issues, so I don't know that I've done anything special. I was just suggesting trying different drivers in case that could help or contacting Hauppauge after trying WinTV in case there is a problem with the new tuner.

Angry Please help: Can't get TWO wintv pvr USB2s to work!

Can anyone please help? I can't get 2 WinTV PVR USB2 cards to work on my PC.

I used to have just one WinTV PVR USB2 and it worked fine, no probs.

Two days ago, I bought a second one and attached it to my PC. Got the drivers installed ok. I set it up in the SageTV 6 software, but when I tried to view the second tuner, it was very very dark in the tuner section and in the composite section the colours were inverted!

Iv tried uninstalling and reinstalling but to no avail. Even tried different USB ports - no luck!

Am I doing something wrong? Has anyone got these to work successfully? Please can you help?

Bert

PS: I've spoken to Hauppauge and although they admit that two USB2s will work, they don't support it!!

I had the same error. When I contacted Hauppauge, I noted that I am using some older and some newer PVR-USB2 units (the older 29xxx series and newer 24xxx series). It turns out you cannot use the latest drivers with the older 29xxx series PVR-USB2 boxes if you are also using a newer 24xxx on the same system. I recieved the following recommendation:
"For the older drivers you would use the following – which is the 29xxx

Hello,

Please download the following Files

The Base Driver
http://hauppauge.lightpath.net/softw...b2_inf_26c.zip
The Driver Update
http://hauppauge.lightpath.net/softw...2_26_23097.exe
The Application
http://hauppauge.lightpath.net/softw...k411_23347.exe
The Decoder
http://hauppauge.lightpath.net/softw...r/hcwsmd05.exe
Hcwclear.exe
http://hauppauge.lightpath.net/softw...s/hcwclear.exe

After these files are downloaded, run the hcwclear.exe program. When you get the Hcwclear.exe window choose the fourth and fifth item. That will be Remove all WinTV files (total remove) and also Search INF files. You should get a Black Window, let it run it will go away by itself.

Please Extract the file PVR_USB2_inf.zip to a folder where you can locate the files. Please restart your with the WinTV-PVR-USB 2 unit plugged in.

Upon restart you should get the found new hardware wizard, please choose to install from a specific location and point to the folder where you unzipped the pvrusb2_inf_26c.zip and click ok and it should install the base driver. Once its finish please now install the pvrusb2_26_23097.exe and click next until finished.

Please now install the following two files.
The WinTV application

The Decoder

Now you should have the WinTV2000 Icon on your desktop - please double click it to start the application and initiate an Auto-Scan.

For the 24xxx you would use the following –

USB tuners draw a lot of current. If you aren't already, you could try plugging them each into a separate externally powered hub to make sure you can source all of the current they need. I don't know if this is your issue, but it's worth a shot.

Aloha,
Mike

They use external power supplies so that shouldn't be it.

If you switch units one at a time do they both behave the same? You may have one bad unit; or just a bad connection to one of the units.

Deadbolt, I followed your instructions, but still no luck. Exactly the same problem! Thanks for your help anyway.....

I'll just give it back to the shop.

Actually, these came from Hauppauge. It is a known issue. Maybe they can help.

LOL Just went down to my local PC World to buy a replacement 24xxx and found that they had mislabelled them! Suffice to say that I bought TWO 24xxx tuners and saved myself over £120 !! hehe

Will now sell my old 29xxx on ebay and return the other new one to dabs.com

Will be installing the new ones in about an hours time - hope they work ok.

Its turned out well for me :-)

Bert :-)

Yahoooo!!!

I've managed to get it all working!! I now have THREE 24xxx WinTV PVR2 USB2 encoders working merrily away in SageTV, So, i can watch and record multiple channels now

So how did I do it? Well Deadbolt was right, it was because i had a 29xxx in there, which gave me all the problems. But now that its out, I have no more problems and i'm as happy as Larry

WinTV PVR2 USB2 Encoder 1: Sky Digital (Composite)
WinTV PVR2 USB2 Encoder 2: Digital Terrestrial (Composite)
WinTV PVR2 USB2 Encoder 3: Analogue Terrestrial (UHF Tuner)

So, just wanted to say thanks to all, and i'm off to watch some TV

Bert
