Sage TV max quality vs. Beyond TV's

Does Sagetv record in an mpeg-2 transport stream like beyond tv?

It says the file size is only 5.9 gb/hr, where as beyond tv's is closer to 8 gb/hr.

I find that beyond tv's recording quality is better. Is there truth to this? How can I record the full transport stream?

Thank you

What tuner are you using? If you are recording a digital stream, SageTV is saving the video stream as it receives it, w/o any re-encoding going on, so there is no recording quality setting. There may be a difference because I believe SageTV is saving only the video for the channel being recorded.

If you are using an analog SD tuner, like the Hauppauge 150, then it is using the recording quality as set in SageTV. You can choose which quality setting to use.

I am using the fusion hdtv 5 usb.

I was just wondering how come the pic, since it's digital, doesn't look the same with beyond tv vs. sagetv 6.

Pic quality aside, I much much prefer sagetv 6. So I figure there must be something that i can do to make sagetv look better.

What you see during playback is determined by the decoder & renderer. You can change those settings in Detailed Setup -> Video/Audio. I'll leave the comparisons of various decoders to others, but until then, you could try searching the forum for lots of those discussions.
