DVD Video & TV quality

Ok I have read plenty of threads ( My head is spinning) I have tried to put this all together and I am still confused. My questions is once I have my TV picture quality set to what I think is the best quality how do you set the DVD play back picture quality with out affecting the TV quality?
I am reading a lot about hardware accelerators and video compression that is confusing also what are they and where can you get them? I have PVR 250, Radeon 9500 pro using power DVD XP and hooked up to a 50 projection screen tv ( Mitsubishi)

Also I have not bee able to get the Dolby digital pas thur to work.

Thanks Bruce

You set the Video/TV decoders in Setup > Detailed Setup > Video and then you set the DVD Decoders in Detailed Setup > DVD.

I guess what i am saying is where do you adjust the DVD video quality Like sharpness, color contrast, Like you do for The TV. My dvd play back seems very washed out compaired to the TV. I am using Power DVD if I just use Power DVD the picture is great but when I use Sage the picture is washed out.

Thanks Bruce

Are you using PowerDVD filters in SageTV? If so the PQ should be the same in both.

By filters I meant do you have PowerDVD selected in this screen:

(Thanks to SHS for posting the picture)

I guess my advise would be to set up your TV with something like the Digital Video Essintials or Avia DVDs and then mess with the Hauppauge input color controls. I used this method to set my Brightness/Contrast which is quite a bit different than the default.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for responding!! This has been bugging me for awhile. I Did set my Tv using Digital video essentials ( I am a big home theater Buff). I do have power DVD selected as my decoder, that is what has me confused? Why does the tv out put have contrast, brightness, sharpness ect. but DVD?? or am I missing something?

Thanks Bruce

Which version of PDVD are you using, the new version has CLEV that can messes with the the brighness/contrast dynamically that could cause the PDVD and Sage pictures to be different. You could try re-callibrating your TV with DVE in SageTV then you'd be sure your TV's set right for Sage.
