Recommendations for a socket 939 microATX motherboard

Hi all, I’ve had my system running now for a few months and have really been enjoying it. I originally purchased a Hauppauge 500mce but after struggling with picture quality I bought an Nvidia DualTV…what a huge difference. I RMA’d the 500mce (I was past the return date) and got it back with supposed better Samsung tuners that fixed previous problems.

But the problem now is that both cards do not fit in my motherboard. I have a Foxconn 6150 (6150K8MA-8EKRS) which has 3 PCI slots but only the middle slot can hold either card. The other two slots have capacitors in the way and the card can’t sit properly all the way down.

To bring a long post to a point, does anyone know of a socket 939 (AMD’s) microATX motherboard that can hold both the 500mce and the DualTv? Any help will be much appreciated.

I'm running a DFI RS482 board in my HTPC client. Excellent quality board, and the layout is pretty good. Doesn't look like I'd have any clearance problems with PCI cards.

If you rely on the 6150 onboard graphics processor, then the DFI wont be for you. You will have to buy an addon GPU for your video. So, depends on what you have now.

If you want to stick with 6150, then MSI has a board that many have used (K8NGM2-FID). I use it myself... and its pretty decent, no issues with two PVR150 tuner cards, (I dont have the DualTV nor PVR500). I have no complaints about the board. Its the flippen software from nvidia thats the problem lol.

Thats incorrect, the DFI RS482 has onboard graphics with comosite, s-video, component, rgb, and dvi out.

I guess though ... is 'it' any good though? Not like the 6150 is all that perfect... but, you know... would like to know.

Why not AM2 instead of 939?

Maybe he already has hardware that can't be used on AM2.(DDR RAM?) A HTPC doesn't exactly need to be a powerhouse, a S939 system would last quite a while even buying one new today.

That would be my guess. If I was to have to replace one component because of something like my tuner cards cant fit, it would be something that all my other components will work on. I doubt he wants to buy a new CPU, a new HSF, and new ram just to make his tuner cards fit.

939 is still good and strong, especially for HTPCs that dont double as a gamestation.

The only reason why i have 939 is because i took the memory and processor from another computer that was 939. I prefer to stick with it and not have to buy new stuff to switch over to AM2.

I do have a fanless 7600GS that i got cheap and is in another computer now that really doesn't need it. I can swap it out and use it if the onboard really sucks. My setup is just for SD so there is no huge demand ther,e although of course I want to go HD...at some point....

I gotta check out those motherboards. thanks for the recommendations.

I use the MSI RS482M2-IL and have 3 550 Pros in it along with an XFX 7600GS. No clearance problems at all. Never used the on-board graphics because I also play a few games on it. I think they're okay though depending on the content you're watching (HD).
