My recording just disappeared

This is pretty odd and it's never happened before.

I have 24 and Heroes set to record at the same time. 24 finishes at 10pm as it should and Heroes is running a few minutes long this evening. I leave the menu on the "SageTV Recordings" menu, browsing the Heroes section and see tonights recording there, still in progress. I come back a few minutes later after the show is over and the recording has disappeared completely. Gone from Sage, and gone from the hard drive as well.

Has anyone had this happen before?

This is actually the first problem I've ever had with Sage since I started using it with version 2.2.

I'm using 6.0.19 at the moment.

Usually, something like this is caused by SageTV determining that the file is corrupt in some way, so it deletes it. But, you can enable debug logging (if it isn't on already) so that if it happens again, the log will give some info about why it was deleted.

How are you recording this show? HD? Over firewire? I have had shows that Sage had been recording over firewire, and for whatever reason it wasn't capturing the stream, resulting in a 0 byte file. After it has "finished" recording, it disappears. Sucks, and I have lost several shows that way.

It's being recorded from my HDHomerun, but I've never had this happen before.

I'll enable the debug logging in case it happens again. Thanks for the tip!

Make sure you don't have the analog channels enabled for the HD Homerun. I saw this happen when my analog channels were enabled and HD Homerun attempted to record them. It looked like they were recording. You could see a timeline when it was recording. But if you tried to watch it while it was recording it was a black screen. And after it was finsihed Sage would delete it because nothing really recorded. Check your channel lineup.

I dont have the analog channels enabled.

I actually figured out what the problem was, and it was in fact a corrupted recording.

I have an ongoing issue with one of my HD channels, the channel on which Heroes airs. The channel likes to cut in and out despite having the cable to the house replaced and having everything checked out. It's thoroughly annoying.

I still have my antenna in place and hooked up to a Fusion 5 Lite, so I moved this channel back to recording off the antenna.

Happened last night with Jeopardy and man was my wife pissed. Luckily we still have Tivo plugged in.

We went to what Recordings, saw Jeopardy was recording, even started watching it for a couple minutes. Paused it and went to fix some dinner. Wife and I came back and screen was blank. Went back to main menu, Recordings, and Jeopardy was gone. Can you imagine if that happened with 24 or something my wife really cares about! She would throw it into the fireplace.

Wouldn't it make more sense that if Sage detected a problem with the file, that it displays a message to the user?

It has happened to me with 24. I would have been super pissed if it weren't for BitTorrent.
