df_sageutils.jar: which one?

Seems like several of the customizations include df_sageutils.jar in their packages. For example, I just updated Bob Phoenix's great editor STVi and it included df_sageutils.jar, which I dutifully let overwrite the existing one in my JARs folder.

Now I see a new version of Comskip Playback is available, and it has its own df_sageutils.jar.

Does this file change frequently? Is there a risk that if I install CS 1.2.4 after installing Video Editing 0.2.3 that I'll screw up the VE functionality -- or vice versa?

Sorry if this has been asked and answered already.

Hi Steve,

it is generally a good idea to use the *latest* available version of df_sageutils.jar. When updating the JAR with new functionality I usually try to maintain backward-compatibility, but this might not always be possible.

In your case I would try the newest JAR version, and if a plugin breaks I would kindly ask the developer to update his import code.

look at the datestamp of the JAR. You should normally keep the newest version. If you existing version is newer, keep it. If the existing version is older, overwrite it with the new one.

edit: too slow

Thanks, guys! Looks like both Video Editing and Comskip Playback are both using the November 11, 2006 version, so everything should be cool.

Oh, and it's cool add-ons such as these -- along with such great assistance -- that is really making me happy I chose SageTV.
