Recorded Video 'Buzzes' When too much white is on screen
Weird one... Hopefully I can explain it right.
On certain channels, when there is a lot of the color WHITE on the screen the video 'shakes' and I get a loud, annoying BUZZ sound from the audio. It seems like maybe the signal strength, or saturation, or something is simply so high that it is getting saturated. It only happens on certain channels, and only when there is a lot of WHITE on the screen. Has anyone seen this? Does anyone have any suggestions? I have NOT tried messing with the PVR250 recording settings (the brightness/saturation/etc). The video feed is cable TV, signal strength looks OK (~ -5 to -3 dB signal strength as measured from my cable man's meter). Thanks in advance! I believe this is caused by too much gain, possibly from over amplification either by your cable company, or by any amplification you may be doing on your own. I have one channel that does this for me, and I'm pretty certain it's because my cable company is amplifying the signal as much as possible to distribute the signal over the older wiring in my building.
Unless it's being caused by your own amplifiers, I'm not sure there's much you can do. Perhaps it's possible to attenuate the amplification somehow? |

In my livingroom where the tivo is, I have the volume on the TV turned all the way down and I have the audio going through a stereo. I'm pretty sure that it's the TV itself that makes the buzzing sound.

i do not have that problem with my system now.
but a few years back that would happen to me with just regular cable and my home theatre audio. i think it has something to do with your video feed coming into your home. try maybe seperating video cables and power supply cables and wires from near your audio wires and audio receiver. probably getting some frequency interference. |

There is a couple things you might want to try. I had this problem on a specific channel (cable 72, which is CourtTV, and they run a lot of white). The problem in my case was actually an unterminated coax connection which was near a power strip. It caused bleeds into the cable in my line. Check to make sure that you don't have any cable connections in your house which are unterminated (you can get 75 ohm terminators at your local radio shack for like a buck apiece or something like that). You also might have an ungrounded cable connection, go out to the cable company's drop box and check to make sure that the cable line coming into your house goes through a grounded connector (this problem is not that common, because the law requires the cable company to do this, however sometimes you run accross a house which had its cables tweaked by an unlicensed person).
You also might want to keep track of which channels with which you are having problems, and ask your cable company to examine the signals entering your house. The problem might be an unattenuated signal (should be 15.5 db max, iirc) on those frequencies. Hope this helps. Last edited by tpaxatb; 11-16-2003 at 12:12 PM. |
