Forum Feature Request: Guides and Tutorials category in Downloads section

Hi All,

I think the title says it all. I'm just finishing up some instructions for firwire channel changing using the ExeMultiTuner plugin and I realized that it would be very helpful to have a central location for community-created documentation. I guess links could be added to the wiki, but it would be nice to have guides and tutorials available here on-site without having to dig through mountains of threads to find them. Just a thought.

Aloha,
Mike

It's probably best to just keep posting such stuff to the appropriate sections of the forums. Uploading a zipped document to the Downloads section wouldn't save you from the need to post an announcement/feedback thread in the regular forums as well. So you might as well skip the zip and put all the info right into that thread, and rely on Andy to sticky it if it proves especially useful.

Actually, I like the proposed idea. I agree that it wouldn't make it easier for the one who creates the document, but a *lot* easier for those who are searching for the information. Having a central place for guides/faqs/tutorials covering the most popular subjects could save a lot of unfruitful forum search. I'd look in that section first, and then start digging through the threads.

What I'm saying is that the sticky section of each forum already serves that function. If you look at the Hardware or Studio forums, for instance, most of the stickies are how-to guides for solving common problems. That's where I'd look first, because it's about four clicks closer than anything in the Downloads section.

But whatever. I guess a new Downloads category can't hurt. I'm just skeptical that it will get much traffic, given that many people don't even bother to read the stickies.

I'll be adding a new section to the downloads area later... and we'll see how it goes from there.

OK, I had a few minutes, so it is now added. Let me know if there are any problems using it.

Thanks Andy!

I just uploaded the first item to the new section. It seemed to work fine. Just a quick question. Is there any way to allow the direct uploading of .pdf files instead of requiring them to be zipped? It isn't a big deal, but users could then open pdf's directly in a browser rather than having to unzip first. It might improve useability a bit. Again, it's just a thought.

Aloha,
Mike

BTW: you should be able to upload PDF files now.
