I'm not sure what you mean by "handle dynamic changes," but it is laughable to suggest that it would require a major rewrite of the software to get rid of the "automatically enable new channels in the lineup" bug -- I mean this in the kindest/gentlest of ways, of course

Nope but this very reason was one of the determining factors in my switch to DirecTV today. So for everyone else... <BUMP>

I HAVE HAD IT!!!!!

Got home late from work and this frakking bug screwed up the recording of Big Brother. WAF is at an all time new low.

This is a well known "feature request" (see http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16558 ).What in the hell is wrong with the Sage Developers?!?!?!?!?!?!?

And here's an even older thread discussing this same problem: http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11368

Send your request directly to SageTV. This is a USER forum and Sage developers may not have seen those threads and may not read these posts either. I think it should be an option too but for me it is only a minor inconvenience since I'm getting every channel that my cable company offers and don't have IR turned on so I almost never get something from a new channel I don't want anyway.

Been there, done that, about 1 1/2 years ago. Got the obligatory email from SageTV support stating, "Thank you for your suggestion. I have forwarded this to the developers."

I am not the only one to get this brush off from SageTV support if you read through the threads I posted previously.

I am particulary perturbed that this "feature" continues to go unaddressed for YEARS now. The other issues that I have emailed to support have gotten a solid response within a few days with solid fixes and/or workarounds.

Yes but if more people request it this way it will show the developers that there is a big demand for it and they might then implement it. Also if they are flooded with requests for this at the same time rather than one every year or so there is less change of the request getting ignored as well. My suggestion for everyone that wants this is to send the request now rather than just waiting for it to be implemented because they sent the request in the past!!!

I just re-sent this issue (forwarded my January messages) to both Dish and SAGE tech support.... see if the answer is any better this time.

Wooooohoooooooo!!!!

Just got a reply from the support team....

and.... they are NOT changing the addition of new channels (at least not now)

but here's the reply...
Just to let you know, this feature will be in the next beta:

2) Allow an IR command to prefix the channel change codes
#2 was one of my proposals to remedy the situation... It's a little clumsy, but if you preface the channel codes with a channel up or channel down code, I think this will get you out of those pesky screens and go on with life. You'll still get errors for any program that sage tries to record from the unsubscribed channel. I think you'll have to have guide in "all subscribed" to prevent jumping to another unsubscribed channel with the up/down command.

I don't think this is the real issue, but at least it should prevent long strings of recordings of the "you don't subscribe" dialog box.

I'll give it a for now... a better solution and I'll give them the

Unfortunately for me, that will be of no help to me. My encoder begins recording 0-length files the moment it starts to attempt recording an encrypted channel and doesn't stop until I restart it.

I hate to get involved in a thread like this, but I've sent emails to support (and Jeff directly as well) about this issue several times. They are well aware of it and like others, I'm not exactly sure why it goes unaddressed. If you search around, I think you might find even older threads I created on the subject as well.

As far as demand, at a minimum, ALL Dishnet and Bell ExpresVU users are affected by this. And for what it's worth, I consider it a defect in the Dishnet receivers, not Sage, but yes, PLEASE HELP. And it really needs to be both: add an option to stop intruducing new channels AND allow for a pre-command (like CH UP) to the channel change sequence. The latter would help with all glitches when controlling a sat receiver with IR, not just the "addition of channels" issues.

6.2.6 Beta is Available

The "prefix" before a channel change is listed as one of the new additions!!!

Quote:
9. Added support for a 'prefix' command which gets sent before a channel change
I don't have time to d/l and test this for another week. Would be interested in hearing other people's experiences with it.

I tried to get this working...

I wanted to test this out before I trust it as a failsafe...

I don't think it is working.

I added new UP command and "learned" the UP command and confirmed that it worked. I assigned it as prefix code.

I set the STB to am un-subscribed channel, select a known good chanel from the guide and VIOLA... nothing happens - seems prefix code is not sent.

I'm submitting a bug report.

stupid thing added channels on my HDHR lineup in the 700s last week or so. sports channels and such so it didn't try to tune them based on my viewing habits. it is darn annoying any way you look at it though.

DirectTV keeps adding (or removing then re-adding) PPV channels in the lineup. Sort of annoying is all... seeing a list of PPV channels in sagetv lol. Or all those awful Informational channels.

From a coder standpoint, there is obviously code to ADD new channels. I don't understand how, or why it is so seemingly difficult to put a IF block preference toggle around that code of "IF(pref_addnewchannels) { do it } else { dont do it }".

1 minute of their time? Maybe 2 to add the toggle to the preferences menu?

Agreed.

This may seem trivial to some, but this problem has brought me closer to leaving Sage than any other. It just seems more frustrating knowing that the solution is probably very easy to implement, and shouldn't negatively affect the functionality for anyone.

What is the DEAL with this problem??? Why has nothing been done about it. I am so sick and tired of going in and "FIXING" my channel lineup every dang week because new channels are added! (and sometimes removed, but then added again NEXT week, ala ppv channels).

I'M SICK OF THIS STUPID ISSUE!!!!!!!!!

I'm a programmer, and something like this is a few freaking dang lines of code! IF noaddnew ELSE addnew... WTF?
