Can Sage Linux 'really' run as a client...?
Hi All,
I'm considering getting a "Pepperpad 3" which is a Linux web terminal that can play back video, etc. Being new to Linux I was looking at the Linux/Sage FAQ and came across this statement: Q: Can a SageTV Linux installation be used as a client? A: Yes, by using the Linux placeshifter client. But if I understand correctly, the 'placeshifter client' cannot playback DVD's via a LAN connection, right? If that is the case, it won't work for me. So the question is, can the Linux version of Sage be run as a "real" client - allowing DVD playback, etc. from a LAN? Any help greatly appreciated! -PGPfan

Demo? Anybody? Please comment as I'd like to order the 'pad' and the Linux OEM as soon as possible once I can determine if it will suit my needs.
Thanks! -PGPfan

I'm can't remember where I read it but I do recall talk of a full linux client (akin to the windows version) being under development. I could be remembering incorrectly however, maybe one of the sage team would be able to shed light on this? A full linux client would make for a pretty cool dedicated PVR.

I recall the older versions allowed you to run the main sagetv app in client mode. Has this been disabled now? (command was Sagetv -client)

The Linux client is the Placeshifter.
The '-client' parameter is still used by SageTV running on Windows, when you want to run a client UI when using SageTV as a network encoder, for example. - Andy
