Can I see the logs with 3D off as well? What GPU do you have Trepidation?

Try upgrading your video card drivers to fix that OpenGL error. And if you're not using an NVidia GPU; it should also work if 3D is off (and even with NVidia it sometimes works with 3D off on Vista).

I'll get the log tonight, was as at work till 11 pm yesterday. Life I signed up for being an engineer. But, back on topic.

I am using the same chipset as tangfj which is the Intel 945GM graphics chipset. I upgraded the video drivers last night from the 6.x version to the 7.x version. I tried placeshifter with and without the 3d option enabled and had the same results which was a blackscreen + audio without 3d option and failure to run with 3d enabled. This is the same as previously stated.

Quick question...how do you recommend I get the log data out more easily so I don't have to post screen shots...i'm not sure how to do it in windows (only in -nix)

I don't know if this has changed in Vista, but in XP you can click on the icon in he upper left of the window, then choose Edit for options to Select All and Copy. After that, you can paste the contents into a text file.

Before doing this, you may also want to select the Property item from that menu, then under the Layout tab, increase the Screen Buffer Size to be able to select more lines than what are currently shown in the window.

Andy, just to let you know, it still works in Vista.

Or better yet, just redirect the output to a text file.

i.e. instead of:
java -cp MiniClient.jar;jogl.jar;gluegen-rt.jar sage.miniclient.MiniClient

run:
java -cp MiniClient.jar;jogl.jar;gluegen-rt.jar sage.miniclient.MiniClient > log.txt

Your output will then appear in log.txt...this way you don't need to do any tedious mucking about in the screen buffer...

Try 1> or 2> instead of >

and then it'll work on Windows.

Another thing you guys can try is to see if the JOGL demos (Java OpenGL) run on your Vista machines w/ Intel GFX. That's what the 3D stuff uses in the Placeshifter.

In the same boat...

I have the exact same problem. Placeshifter worked flawlessly on XP. On vista, I get sound and no video. If I enable 3D, the placeshifter window shuts down right away. I have placeshifter 6.18 and the drivers for the 945gm express are 7.14. I went to the following JOGL website: https://jogl-demos.dev.java.net/ and they worked fine.

I have enclosed my log file...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know if this will help. When I go to a channel, I get the following message from Windows: The color scheme has been changed to Windows Vista Basic: A running program isn't compatible with certain visual elements of Windows.

Found a workaround!

Ok found a workaround!

I downloaded the most recent driver (15.2.3) from Intel(http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...ista*&lang=eng)

Then I changed the resolution to 16bpp instead of 32bpp. Right click and make sure Aspect Ratio Mode is not "Source".

I hope that helps some of you out.

PS It seems that keeping the color scheme at 32bpp and lowering the resolution to 1024X768 will also work (at least for me)

Still no joy. I've verified that all drivers are up to date. Tried multiple resolutions etc. Still I only get a blackscreen w/o 3d and a instant crash with 3d. At this point i'm becoming severely displeased with my purchase.

Anyone have any luck getting it to work with the 945GM mobile graphics in Vista? None of the above options worked for me either. I see a few people have sent in their files. Has anyone heard back from Sage on this issue? It sure would be nice to watch some television when I stay at my desk at lunch.

FYI...The JOGL demos work fine.

Thanks

So far I have Placeshifter running on Vista (ATI mobility Radeon X2300, Home Premium, java 1.6u1), but I had to jump through some hoops:

Vista's Aero interface and Placeshifter in non-3D mode are incompatible. Disable Aero (right click desktop, personalize, color & appearance, Vista Basic), and reboot to free up whatever resources still block placeshifter from rendering. Otherwise, like Trepidati0n you will just get a black screen

Theoretically in 3D mode all should work, but it does not work for me...

nielm,

It still won't work for me. If 3D is enabled, then it will flash a black screen for a second then go away. It probably has something to do with having the intel 945GM graphics chipset. Hopefully, it will be fixed soon.

Thanks,

Dennis
