Can't start Sage server... java issues?
Hello, I should begin by stating that I am attempting this on a non Gentoo distro. I grabbed the latest Sage server. I got all required dependancies without much issue. I did have an issue when installing my key, namely that java couldn't find an encyption type RSA. It failed to generate the local key but did find the SageTV public key. I was using 1.5.0_10. I downgraded to 1.4 and was able to generate the key without issue. I reinstalled 1.5.0_10 and went to /opt/sagetv/server and executed ./startsage as root. I get the following error:
Changing to SageTV directory /opt/sagetv/server/. Starting server mode Unrecognized VM option 'MaxGCPauseMillis=25' Could not create the Java virtual machine. If I edit the startsage script and remove that option, the same error occurs only with 'GCTimeRatio=24'. If I remove that option, SageTV will start running as a server seemly okay. However, when I try and connect an MVP to it, I get the following error in sagetv_0.txt: Sat 1/13 20:34:53.064 at sage.be$1.run(Unknown Source) java.net.SocketException: Socket closed Sat 1/13 20:34:53.066 at java.net.SocketInputStream.read(SocketInputStream.java:162) Sat 1/13 20:34:53.066 at java.net.SocketInputStream.read(SocketInputStream.java:182) Sat 1/13 20:34:53.066 at java.io.FilterInputStream.read(FilterInputStream.java:66) Sat 1/13 20:34:53.066 at sage.be$a.run(Unknown Source) Sat 1/13 20:36:09.552 Error w/SageTV client connection:java.net.SocketException: Socket closed Sat 1/13 20:36:09.553 MiniUI ServerSocket died from:java.net.SocketException: Socket closed The MVP itself will detect my computer and show the SageTV loading screen. This screen will blink off and on (probably as the connection dies and is reestablished.) Any ideas on what to do here? |

Java path
If you installed JRE in an odd path, you'll need to add /where/ever/you/installed/JRE/bin to the path variable in ~/.bashrc (or whatever rc file you use for your favorite shell). Don't forget that the path ends in "/bin".

I managed to fix it by installing a different version of my distro. I did try a few different PATH's to no avail. I'm not entirely sure what is different this time around, other than the sageserver working without a hitch.

Just out of curiosity, what distro are you running?

The initial problem I had was with Ubuntu 6.06. An upgrade to 6.10 fixed every issue I had with sageserver. Though I'm still fiddling with trying to get sageclient working. Since I'm having difficulty with other TV applications, I'm guessing it isn't a sage specific issue. It seems to have a lot to do with the video overlay, so your milage may vary.

I didn't even know there was a GNU compiler for Java! I'll bet that was the conflict.

Similar Java issues using JRE 1.5.0
I am getting an error when trying to use keygen.sh with my key saying:
Error with MAC address detection of:java.io.IOException: java.io.IOException: No such file or directory I don't have gcj installed and have JRE 1.5.0-11 installed with the path in the .bashrc file and and new bash session. Not sure why this is happening. |
