EASY S/PDIF Mod for older MVP's
There is a VERY EASY Mod to add an optical and coax digital out to your old MVP. I'm not going to take any credit for this as all I did was follow the instructions on THIS PAGE. There are just three solder joints to do, and it works a treat! The difference in sound quality is amazing, and I can now watch my ripped DVD's with 5.1 DD surround!! It doesn't work with DTS sound though. I used an old motherboard optical/coax thingy that connects to the 4 pin motherboard header, and just used the three wires shown on the photos in the pages on the link above and just drilled a round hole in the rear so the cable comes out the back of the MVP to the plastic housing on the optical/coax thingy. Took me 7 mins and works 100%
Obviously this will void any warrantee you have on the mvp, and a little soldering skills are required! and thanks to all the people who worked this out! Let me know what you all think. |

Hi maninblack_30,
Yup that page and the original forum thread on www.shspvr.com got me started too, but not being an electronics guru (and wanting to do it right), with a lot of help from the helpful folks at mvpmv.org, I cobbled together a more detailed pdf which is available here. Note! This is a 1.9MB file. The original thread (where I posted the above originally) is linked from that pdf, and is here. Cheers and I hope it clears up some of the mysteries I had. Like maninblack, I take absolutely no credit for the REAL work. k. p.s. Big thanks to mvallevand. Last edited by jksmurf; 01-21-2007 at 05:42 PM. |
