HD Support

Hi all,

I've been away from the forum a while because I was completely satisfied with my sage setup (which I never thought would happen). However, I've decided to take the next step with and finally get HDTV (fairly sizable monthly cost but whatever). Now, I remember last year there was a thread floating around about being able to encode HD signals from a Digital Cable Box but I don't see that anymore. I did try and look for a other threads but I don't see anything specifically spelling out what encoder card I would need to do this. Since I've never used a cable box previously, I guess I would need to look into an IR Blaster but I'll get into that later (also, isnt' there a way you can change channels directly using the pc?). Anyway, first things first, is this possible and what kind of "tuner" card would I need to buy?

you can also use Firewire to capture HD, it also has the ability now to change channels. As long as your machine has the horsepower for it.

This is what I remember from before. Does this method not require any encoder card?

I am looking at the HDHomeRun site and I am a little confused. Does this box stand alone or does it work in conjunction with the hdbox my cable provider gives me. I am talking about non-OTA channels. I have no use for OTA.

The HDHomeRun can tune unencrypted QAM. Sage sees it as a network encoder. It stands alone and is connected via a network connection.

all local OTA channels should be unencrypted, right?

I'm having problems viewing some of my locals (CBS & Fox primarily). Looking at the HD Homerun configuration, I have very strong signal strength, but sagetv client is reporting "No Signal". I have that problem on a few other channels as well.

I'm in houston trying to watch Houston OTA digital channels. I get PBS (2 channels), ABC and NBC just fine, but I was kinda hoping to record 24 tomorrow night in HD.

Any ideas?
