Divx support -- How good is it?

I understand that the SageTV media extender will support DIVX through transcoding at the server and my server has more than enough horsepower to accomplish this task -- P3 3 Ghz 512Meg memory.

My question is -- how good does it work?

I have spent many months fine tuning my system to eliminate all studdering for both SD and HD MPEG2 material and I was wondering what the DIVX playback experiences were for other menbers of this community -- how reliable and smooth is the playback -- both using the media extender as well as a traditional PC based client?

I use purevideo and the divx codec and get next to no cpu lag when watching clientside.

MVP requires a bit of transcoding but still runs fine.

Rewinding and fast forwarding works well as well as resuming playback.

I also run sageMC not sure if that effects it or not.

I can't get FF and RW to work well with Dvix on the MVP's...

What are you doing to make it work?

On the MVP, instead of smooth ff/rew, try using the ff/rew commands that jump x seconds.

Try using the "skip" buttons rather than ff/rw. The ones to the right and left of the pause button.

Smooth FF/REW, FF/REW, and FF2/REW2 are all SageTV commands that you can assign to the buttons on the MVP's remote in Detailed Setup -> Commands -> Link command. If the skip buttons work better for you, then you can do some reassignments if you no longer want smooth ff/rew to be available.

.
Is Purevideo a software program? Also, I am confused if mp4 is the same as avi files?

That sentence indicated "client-side" which meant non-mvp client. MVP-wise I never had much of a problem, but don't use it a ton for divx.
