Ever since Sage added the mediaMVP, I have been wanting an HD extender. When I realised how easy it is to just upgrade the software on the server and waalaaa, my MVP's were also updated, I fell in love. Also, there is no worry about what driver/codec/etc you are using and no moving parts to die on you and have to be replaced. If this is true, I will be a sage lifer (I pretty much am now, but this would be icing on the cake). Now someone find out what it is (I am assuming it is like the MediaMVP, in that Sage is using a readily bought box and loading their own GUI on it) and I will buy one before Sage releases it!

Seems all the latest Sigma chips do H.264 and VC-1, so if it's using a new one, the odds are good.

I've been searching press releases and havent found anything yet from Sage (Frey) or Hauppauge in regards to this unit. Anyone know when either is going to have a release?

I'm pretty sure it does and I hope they keep this feature in, but the HD extender can give you a native high resolution picture at a high-def TV so it should look better. SAGE does it through trans-coding the image or downgrading the picture before it gets to the MVP, so the MVP receives an SD picture and the TV attached to the MVP. The trans-coding also put a heavy load on the CPU so keeping the HD signal native will also take the burden off the SAGE server.

This would be so nice to get HD at the TV for less than $200.00.

Just ordered an HD home run. yeah, I know i've got a few months to wait for the extender, but wanted to beat the rush.

But question -

I should be able to start recording HD with the HD Home run and still watch the recordings with my extenders, right?
My server is an AMD 2600 with 512 RAM. Should be plenty powerful enough for this I hope.

Will the recordings through the extenders look good like this? I'm currently stuck with only an attic antenna and some analog signals are really bad. I'm hoping the digital signals will be much improved and look better through my current extenders.

Nope, the SageTV transcoder converts ANY format you are playing back into mpeg2 (with mpeg1 audio, IIRC) since that is the ONLY format that the MVP's can recognize and playback. What stanger is asking is if the new HD extender will playback any/all files WITHOUT trancoding - ie their "native" formats.
