They gave us an estimate for the same reason everyone else gives estimates: to get their consumers to hold off on buying into competing solutions. When its not ready, people will learn not to rely on these types of estimates and go buy an xbox360 or netgear EV8000 or instead wait and do nothing (as I have).

I hope that I'm wrong, but virtually everyone who has released these types of extenders has taken much longer than initially expected getting a model that works reliably out the door. Maybe I'm wrong about this, and we'll all be laughing about what an idiot I was, but I'm pretty confident that if we were going to see an extender in July that we should have heard something other by now than an informal announcement in December.

They gave an estimate only because the box had been seen at CES. You don't see alot of future plans and dates being given out by Sage becuase they made a decision back in the 1.4/2.0 days to quit giving estimates and plans. They use to give out this information all the time, but the "angry mob" gathered once to often and they shut up (and I really don't blame them).

Based on how they operate now, I expect to hear nothing from them until it is ready or until the Q2 date is missed. Just becaue they have not said anything recently does not indicate that the Q2 date is in jeopardy. The Q2 date may or may not be in jeopardy, we have no way of knowing. We can only speculate. However, if I were betting on it, I'd bet it gets missed (only because most software projects that span a 6 month or more effort are delivered late).

If the Q2 date is missed, I hope they give us an update, but I'm not really counting on it.

Was it not operating at the CES? Sheesh some act like it was an empty box. All that I can see it needing would be tweaking to get a bit closer to the perfection that us torch carrying villagers demand.

I have a feeling that the HD extender will be released shortly after 6.2 for Windows gets released (it's in public beta now). One of the last features to be added to 6.2 will be support for the HD extender.

Just my guess,

Scott

I'm with you on the guess. Considering the features that 6.2 has, that would also make sense to add HD Extender support into 6.2.

Earlier in this thread some people speculated about what specific product the HD media extender will be. Does anyone know if that product it available? Is it available in the United States? I'm wondering this because I suspect the wait is more of a hardware issue than a software one.

Also, I'd love the Sage folks to give us an update on Sage system, a plug and play Sage installed on hardware that's been integrated and known to work well. I'd love to know what hardware they would select to get flawless HD playback.

Thanks,
mike

For flawless HD playback, why I am sure they would recommend the new HD Extender. Seen by outsiders at CES and commented on briefly in the public forums, the HD extender is by far the best way to watch HD. Plus it has a nice citrus scent.

To be fair, it should probably deliver flawless HD playback when it is finally made available in tandem with Barack Obama's presidential re-election campaign. From what we've seen it's going to run on sigma designs hardware. I was able to get reliably smooth mpeg2 playback with an AVLP2. The problem is that the interface sucks.
