Sage client vs Placeshifter?
Is there a feature difference between the regular Sage Client and Placeshifter client? Because when I'm on a LAN, it doesn't transcode it and the quality is identical. Why use the Sage Client?

AFAIK, the main benefit of Client is that you can optimize video playback to a much greater level than with Placeshifter; if you are outputting to a TV, this will enable you to get a much richer picture output.
On a LAN, if you are using Placeshifter or Client for casual TV viewing on your PC, the picture quality may not be worth the flexibility in licensing offered by Placeshifter. Stu |

The picture quality on a LAN is identical. The bandwidth taken up is the same between the Sage Client and Placeshifter. So for instance, on my laptop, it seems to make sense to only have the Placeshifter client. Perfect quality in my house, and compressed quality over a WAN elsewhere. It just makes me wonder what the "regular" Sage client is for.

Placeshifter doesn't allow you to use other decoders. Better decoders such as the Nvidia decoder yields better PQ on the regular client than what is possible with placeshifter. Also unless I'm mistaken placeshifter doesn't play dvds and I don't think it has built in support for remotes. It may have other limitations as well, but I'm not sure.
Some people use placeshifter in place of the regular client while others find it too limiting or the PQ unacceptable. |

OK, thanks.... It seems a waste to have the products different. I'd love it if they could combine their functionality.
