Why does sage mount my partitions?

When I ./startsage, my scsi partitions get mounted at /var/media/external/sd**
When I ./stopsage, they unmount.

Is this normal? If so, why is this necessary?

OS is Ubuntu 2.6.17-10.34-server
SageTV server is the latest release

Thanks

Paul
