"Imported" media?

I'm a bit confused on what exactly "imported" media is. I have a lot of content stored on a fileserver (I previously used Xbox Media Center to stream this content, but moved to Sage so I could have some more horsepower behind things, as well as recording) and I'd like to be able to play this in Sage. I have everything setup in a folder structure that I like. I know I can navigate directly to the files and play them, but that is a bit of a pain.

When I see "Import media" it makes me think Sage will take the media out of its nice folder structure on my fileserver and try to move it onto the Sage server into the imported media folders... is that correct? I saw a posting on here where someone was dealing with playing some files like this and someone recommended he add the location of his media as an import folder. There wasn't much detail, but it sounded like it worked for him. Can I just define the folder on my fileserver as an imported media folder and Sage will let me browse it nicely? I don't want to just try it out of fear that Sage will go and move files around and destroy my nice folder structure.

Thanks in advance

Yes you just define the existing folder.
No, Sage does not move the files...

"Import" means to import the media info into the SageTV Database. All data stays put. Info from shows you record with SageTV get inserteded into the DB automatically, so there is no reason to "import" it.
