Question Hauppauge IR Blaster with SA 3250HD!! Anyone have it working??

my first post here i think
i'm trying out the v6 before i finally buy it. and today i was trying to hook up my rogers cable box (im in canada) which is the Scientific Atlanta 3250HD series. tried searching here and everything.
also downloaded a few drivers for the IR Blaster from hauppauge but still nothing, including the beta drivers on there. but still same results, going thru the config utility it ends up with the code 0078 which doesnt do anything for me.
the IR Blaster flashes but nothing changes on the box.
i tried playing around with the learning function in the beta driver, but it always returns some sort of error back when trying to learn buttons.

at one point it even messed everything up and i started getting the stupid infrared failed to initialize error (got a 150MCE and a 150 Non-MCE card in there), so i had to restore the windows on the HD. thank god for NGhost lol

and i think im pointing the IR Blaster at the right spot, the reciever on the box looks to me like it is in the left corner of the front display, right??

any ideas anyone???

Hi mp328. Welcome to the forums.

I can't really help with the IR blaster setup, but I have another suggestion. I am running 2 SA3250HD units using the firewire connection for channel changing. The software setup may be a little more complicated, but the hardware setup is easier. In the long run I think it is much more reliable. Hope this helps.

Aloha,
Mike

Does SageTV recognize the SA3250HD units automatically? I guess I am confused what you need to do once you connect the SA3250HD to your computer?

Sage doesn't recognize the SA3250 automatically. You have to do some manual configing to get it to work. Go to post 835 in the firewire thread, http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9288 , and check out the guide.

Basically, you install the SA3250 drivers and set up a firewire capture device so that Sage can record the firewire input. You can also set up a firewire channel changer program.

ke6guj,
I started to follow the directions from the PDF from the link you posted, but when I try to install the firewire.zip it says I need Windows MCE installed.
This seems really funny (and frustrating) to me that it's posted in the SageTV forum and the program needs MCE.
I'm a little confused and stuck on step 1.

Any help would be appreciated!!
Dana

OK, the reason that it says you need MCE installed is that the guy who wrote the program designed it so he could use it in his MCE setup. It has MCE features that we don't use in Sage. However, he did set it up so that the basic driver set could be installed in a non-MCE box.

IN the readme.htm included with the firestb.zip, there is the following info..

Quote:
How to I install on a non-MCE machine?

The package by default checks for MCE 2005. However, the drivers and command line utilities are useful on non-MCE machines, to install on a non-MCE machine run the following command:

MSIEXEC /i firestb.msi IDENT=0
edit: Just looked and the first link that I saw for the firewire files links to an older copy of the files. Here is the link to the author's page that has the most current files, http://home.comcast.net/~timmmoore/w...0Firewire.html
