migrating drive letters
I've read a lot about Sage and recording directories. I've read too much.
If I add drive E: and Sage places some recorded shows on it, then later I want to move those to drive D: and eliminate drive E, can I do so? How does the database get updated? |

First and foremost...copy all the shows from the one drive to the other.
Next, go inside of SageTV settings >> detailed setup and then remove a drive (make sure you're not recording when doing this) and then add the new drive ( you can use the browse button to do so). Sage will automatically pick up on the shows if you stop it and restart it. Cheers |

Assuming both D and E are recording directories you would shut Sage down completely (including the service). Move the files from E to D and then restart Sage. It should update the db to reflect the new location. Then remove E from the list of recording directories. Personally I would give it a few minutes to make certain it has time time to take care of business before removing the old directory.
The key to moving recordings in Sage is having both the old and new locations available as recording directories after moving the files. This way Sage can not only see the files at the new location, but also verify that they are no longer at the old location. If you only have E as a recording drive then you should add D , shut Sage down, move the recordings, re-start Sage, and then remove the old directory. If you move the files before adding D as a recording directory you run the risk of Sage seeing the empty E drive and nuking some of your show info. |
