Sage didn't always have the Sage service option. So Sage TV had to continue to run to record. That's why there was never an "exit" put into the Sage GUI. This way you couldn't accidently exit instead of sleep and miss your recordings. Now as long as you run the service this isn't so crucial. But to err on the side of caution they have probably left it this way. All I can suggest is email support to request the enhancement. And for your ease of use couldn't you just map a button on your remote to the "exit" command? Gerry

+1 for a new UI, shipped and supported by SageTV/Frey. SageMC is a pretty decent UI, however the default UI should have more of that kind of a feel to it.

1) I'd like a number of the J River Media Center features in SageTV (media library tree views based on tags for instance). Until Sage can match J River here, I remain a non-user of its music capabilities.
2) I'd like an integration between SageTV and Gallery2 photo organization software. 3) I'd like really good multiuser support (including a quota system for prioritizing favorites). If it's not pretty good (i.e., if it is less effective and more painful than my wife and I talking things through), then we probably wouldn't use it. Bottom line request: specify an API that plugins could support for accessing other systems' libraries. Right now, Sage (the software) is pretty much oblivious to the existence of other products' libraries (except for trivial support of the file system's own "library"). If Sage allowed other products to supply the organization of media files, then we would be a long way toward supporting my #1 and #2, not to mention lots of other integrations. This API would have to be pretty generic/powerful to support the features of some systems out there (ahem, J River, cough), but it's not rocket science. Essentially, the API would support a tree of branches and leaves, where leaves are media files and everything else is a "folder"/album. If Sage genericized that API, then we'd be in really nice shape for plugin developers to expose all sorts of other products through Sage, in a way that could be reused by STV authors without STV authors specializing in library plugins, and without plugin authors specializing in STVs. Anybody else like this idea? |

And I don't use a remote. Two buttons on my mouse are all I need. |

My 2 cents. I think the customizations are great and it makes Sage the best. I wouldn't run it without them. That way I don't have to wait until Sage decides to put it into the core.

Sorry, I guess I should be more clear.
I love the customizations; I like the fact that SageTV encourages the growth of community development by opening up an API for developers. What I wish was more clear was the overall envelopment path; in other words, how do some of those features found only in customizations make it into the final product? For example, I love the idea of automatic encoding per favorite; I understand that SageMC has it, but I don't like some of the other features of SageMC. How would I (or others) encourage Sage to pick up some the ideas underlying SageMC and other GUIS (are there other GUI's?) into the core product? Stu |

I have found that the winamp plugin was the best improvement to the audio system. Got MPlayer out of the way and let winamp play the music. Sage's UI just sends commands to winamp, which is running in background. Even supported a couple of the winamp Visualizations, which, unlike the sage visualization, isn't embarrasing for friends and family to see. Some of winamps features like intertrack crossfade work great with this setup.

multi user
I have to say that I like the standard UI of SageTV. It is simple, functional and it works for me. For all those special features I am using the great customizations of this community.
However, I'd also like to see multi-user-support being integrated into SageTV. That feature would make SageTV even more easier to use and a lot cooler. Maybe one of the Sage-developers is reading this and he/she could make sure that this gets on top of the list of features that have to be integrated as soon as possible... ;-) |
