1. Picture-in-picture - I have 3 HD tuners and 3 SDTV tuners. sucks that I can't watch more than 1 football game at a time

2. Nicer interface - beyondTV and Windows MCE both look alot nicer

3. HDTV thin client

Every other DVR has PIP, why not Sage?

Interestingly enough, SageTVPlayer.exe can do just that! For one example, from a DOS box type:
Code:
 SageTVPlayer.exe http://66.250.45.118:7010
It would be really nice if Sage integrates this capability in the UI, so I can have a screen of preset stations and switch between them with the remote.

It would also be nice if the Sage people get a little more recent version of that SageTVPlayer (aka: MPlayer). The one that currently ships with Sage is rather old, and it gives me audio/video synch problems when playing some of my mpeg4 files. These synch problems disapear when I play the same files with more current versions of that player.

With the example from my previous post, just add the option:
-dumpaudio

...and it will store the feed to yout hard disk.

And this even makes it possible for SageTV to implement recording of multiple feeds and time shifting, the same way it does it now for the TV recordings.

Does anyone know what the differences between the SageTV compiled SageTVPlayer and regular MPlayer are? Would anything break if you simply renamed a more current version of MPlayer.exe to SageTVPlayer.exe?

Oh, trust me, I've tried that!

Unfortunately, it doesn't work for some reason. Probably Sage is using some undocumented or obsolete API call with that old version. Too bad because the newer versions do play my mpeg4 files perfectly.

How about gapless playback of audio files? I'm tired of explaining to people why my "stereo" stutters between gapless songs. And speaking of music why can't we get CD playback into this thing?

Perhaps I need to be educated, but I've yet to find a one step process for exiting Sage when running full screen. There's standby, but no exit.

Pressing "Alt+F4" will exit Sage immediately in one step from full screen (as long as you can press them both with one hand ).

The only other one I know of is/was UltimateTV by Microsoft. Although I never used PiP, it was a great PVR even today. Sage offers much more flexability and customizablity, but it has some nice things that I wish existed in Sage.

Oh well, that's what Studio is for, right? I just wish it were a little easier to use.

I agree with these points, esp. about the new UI. An much more MCE like interface shipped with the base version and supported and tested by Sage would be great.

thanks,
mike

As mentioned above, SageMC gives you a dialog box to sleep or exit (or cancel) from fullscreen with your mouse or remote.

That would help a lot, if I knew what SageMC was.

Edit: I've done a search and found out it's a custom UI. Not sure why a program would need to have a custom UI to have an exit button. It seems sort of basic, and rather an easy thing to add.

I'm just using the basic Sage software, (single computer, no server, nothing added) and it doesn't do that.

Exactly my point as posted above: I like the fact that Sage gives you the opportunity to add custom funtionality, but I don't understand how, why or when that custom functionality will get applied to the base product.
