mpg playback in media player - Missing Codec?
I'm trying to play a movie recorded in dvd standard mode with media player 9. Do I need a special codec? Thanks.
BTW, the playback is on a different machine than the recording so I don't have 250/350 drivers. |

You need a MPEG-2 decoder installed to playback movies recorded with the 250/350. Do you have a DVD player installed on this machine?

Install the MPEG-2 Codecs that came with your WinTV card, or install a software DVD player like PowerDVD or WinDVD on your portable.
This will let you play it back via Media Player 9. |

Apparently WMP has a 'hidden' mpeg2 codec. (Mpeg2 was once supported and Microsoft later removed the ability. I think...) Try downloading the "MS Player Mpeg2 Patch" from CodecCorner.com. It's worked on three of my machines.

Can this be added to an FAQ somewhere? If it already is, I was not able to find it. This fixed my playback problems.
Thanks, Zak |
