Best de-interlace settings for an 800 MHz CPU

I run SageTV on my 4:3 32" HDTV at 880 x 496 and it looks great! Even though this isn't a 4:3 resolution, I have it all jammed on the 4:3 screen and Sage fills it in perfect.

Thing is, the deinterlacing artifacts are quite prominent. Maybe I screwed something up, because it seems like it looked better at first and now they are very noticeable.

My setup:
PIII 800 MHz 133FSB
1.25 GB PC 133 RAM
GeForce2 GTS
Hauppauge PVR-350

I record at DVD standard play (3.25 GB / hour).
Video Decoder : Default
MPEG Mode : Default
Deinterlacing : Default

I know that once I upgrade the CPU / Mobo I will definitely start using DScaler. But for now, is that really an option? Should I change some of those defaults?

I would play around with different Decoders. Try using the Intervideo decoder (it shipped with the PVR-350 card) and then changing the MPEG modes and deinterlacing.

I would also recommend using Dscaler (I use it for sports). We use Dscaler in conjunction with the Elecard Video Decoder. You can download a shareware version of it at www.elecard.com. Then you can play around with all the Dscaler plugin settings that will appear as well. I don't think your PC is fast enough though to handle Double Refresh Rate using Dscaler. But I would give it a try after you upgrade.
